For me, perfume use indicates someone's level of cultivation. When a woman is drenched in perfume, it conveys that she has problems. Hookers and druggies I've come across seemed to have soaked themselves in perfume while women who've got their act together are more likely to be modest in their use of perfume.

I am a fan of NO perfume or chemically induced odours! I have a sinus reaction to many perfumes, aerosol sprays, perfumed laundry soaps, etc., and try to avoid them as much as possible.

Real men use “anti-fatigue” lotion. (Which is another way of saying “Male makeup/moisturizer”
      ;-)

If my wife wants to entice me all she has to do is rub pepperoni on herself and come close.

For me, I still like Old Spice.

My favorite is Egyptian Vanilla (essential oil)

Or any real food grade vanilla scent.

    I also like Patchouli oil.

For perfume I like Botanicals - Yves Roche has one called Comme Une Evidence - it is Jasmine and Patchouli.

      Anything vanilla is good.

My wife loves Patchouli, it's probably her favorite. Unfortunately for me, I don't like it.

LOL, Dennis - so you prefer a woman that smells like pepperoni over patchouli!

It is a real unisex scent - in the 1960s the guys wore it too (and I think that is why I like it)

But you know the other day I had it on and when I hugged the guy next door he kind of made a face - like it was overpowering or something and he is used to my vanilla which is the opposite - very natural and unperfume like.

Cracked me up when somebody once said who wants a chick that smells like cotton candy? yummm.

Patrician, I think "scents" are very much like taste buds, everyone has a different sense of smell. To me, patchouli smells like stale aquarium water. Like I said though, my wife loves it. On the other hand, I love the smell of hazelnut coffee, but to her it means someone ruined some good coffee.

Well I am one for one (in agreement with you and your wife)

I like patchouli and I like hazelnut coffee

But hands down, vanilla everything is by far my favorite scent above any other.

The problem with that is so many dimwits that manufacture things think vanilla means 'plain vanilla' as in nothing. You couldn't smell vanilla in their (candles, lotion, oil, soap, incense) if you had a nose microscope.

Ecco Bella makes the best vanilla body lotion. It has cocoa butter and that seems to really make the vanilla smell creamy.

Yeah, so no big deal I am out of patchouli oil - when I feel like being 'different' (from vanilla) I will use sandalwood and cedarwood (love them too).

Can't have guys making faces at me especially the one next door. So swearing off patchouli.

I have one bottle of a mix of Egyptian Vanilla stretched with all kinds of other vanillas 'royal vanilla', 'very vanilla', 'vanilla bean' - all weak.

My problem is finding real Egyptian vanilla again. It stays on from shower to shower (24 hours). I got it at a 'farmers market' and you might know it was a roaming vendor there that had the real thing. God only knows where I will find it again.

I stopped at a ice cream stand one time with a friend and I ordered a vanilla shake. He asked me why I didn't get a flavor!

"Jeff," I said, "vanilla is a flavor."

He said he meant a real flavor.

        I just shook my head.

When I think of the rich and dramatic history behind vanilla, I think it is just funny how people discount it now as meaning "plain."

I don't wear perfume very often, but when I do I go with my longtime favorite Ysatis by Givenchy.

Dennis, I have to agree with you - patchouli is not my favorite, which is a polite way of saying I don't like it. Sorry Patrician!

I just has another thought . . . we all have slightly different body chemistry as well. Perhaps the differences could be enough to alter the scent. So, the exact same Patchouli on one person could smell differently on someone else due to subtle chemical signature differences.

It looks like I'm going to have to smell you, Patrician, to see if it smells better on you than on my wife.

    PS - Tiffany, we win!

Yeah, TB - from what I understand Vanilla comes from a special orchid and it only pollinates one time per (year?) which is the time the bean is produced. (my memory is like a sieve but I do remember the main points)

I had looked into finding that special orchid but it is high maintenance (greenhouse) and usually (if not always) in South America.
