I dont want to shock anyone who does not know this but the FDA`s policy is to allow a percentage of bugs, or hair contamination of our food!

How Many Insect Parts and Rodent Hairs are Allowed in Your Food?

I didn't read the article, but common sense tells me there would be some contamination. I say that based on the methods used to harvest and process foods. When you work on such a large scale, your bound to miss a hair or bug now and again.

I know as a kid I ate part of a cockroach that was in some canned chili
Guess what I never ate again

Logic seems to be telling me to reply "canned chili", but there's something inside me making me say "cockroaches". LOL

And if you get ear mites in your ear, where do you get cockroaches?

No canned chili, unfortunately would be the right answer
I rode a motorcycle in Fl. without a windshield or helmet shield.

I want to know who looked at the first roach and then in their pants and thought they looked similar

I heard chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers are good, but that doesn't mean I want to eat them.

They also say that the average person while sleeping eats around 8 spiders during their lifetime. Freaking yum, huh?

Thom - I don't think it's just from mass harvesting. I'm sure I've eaten more than one little critter while scavenging those raspberry bushes. Lots of places in a raspberry for something small to hide. Seems like they are not poisonous at any rate.

There are some places that bugs are purposely on the menu. Seems considering the nutrition they provide, they might be the last answer to starvation. It's all what you are used to eating. Some people get very queasy at the thought of eating a cow.

Thats per year, not in a lifetime Sal. Which makes it even worse.. lol especially if you live in the south, where the spiders can kill you.

I found some bones in a fish I ate once.

Seriously, our food doesn't process itself. Someone has to do it and undoubtedly certain "unspeakables" are going to end up in it. Big deal IMO.

Years ago, Ronnie Hawkins and a bunch of us used to gather for Saturday Afternoon Matinee at a local tavern. A woman in her eighties joined us regularly and always brought with her a tray of homemade brownies which were passed around, under the table, lap to lap. Those brownies had something funny in them too.

He's sure 'nuff known here....he came to FAME studios at Muscle Shoals in 1970 to record his album - "Ronnie Hawkins"...

Duane Allman was still there as a sideman at the time and played on just about every track, as well as the rythym section that went on to later be known as "The Swampers" (After they opened up their own studio)

He's responsible for uniting Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko, and drummer Levon Helm later known as The Band. I could go on (but I'm sure you know it all anyways) but that right there is my main reason for never forgetting Ronnie Hawkins.

I was raised in Lakefield and we had a cottage close to Ronnie's place on Stoney Lake. The good ole days and the stories I could tell. haha

We gathered at the Ship n' Shore Hotel for the Matinees. Ronnie didn't play the matinees there - he'd get up and sing the odd song, but was just there to relax and have a few laughs. Between Ronnie and the brownies, never-mind the booze, you couldn't hold a straight face if ya tried.

He conned me into getting up on stage with him in the late 70's and I did. I'm just so grateful now that we didn't live in a 'digital world' then. There's some recordings and pictures of us singing, but none of it ever found its way to the www that I know of. I'd like to keep it that way.

I met Cathy Evelyn Smith through Ronnie. Hard to believe John Belushi has been gone 30 years.

Sounds like the 70's were a bit of fun for you, Jody. But how many insects did you guys eat? Feel free to count the worms at the bottom of the tequila bottles in your reply.

Sal, back in those days a shooter was a shot of tequila with salt and lemon. I never knowingly swallowed a worm that I'm aware of and I must admit, I drank my fair share of them!

I didn't mind the funny stuff in the brownies though.
