  • When you start up your PC.
    Continuously tap F5 & F8.
This will open up an option menu.
    From this select Safe Mode.
After you enter your system through safe mode,
just delete the password by going to control panel>user accounts.
This will do the job next time you turn the pc on.

    • Hi, it's still asking for the password in safe mode

  • Actually, it could have worked, but its possible there was a manufacturers password on the system and not a user password. In XP at least if there are user passwords but no admin passwords you can log in as the admin then go to the users and delete the password and restart and it would let you in. I haven't done it in ages but if presented with a machine with that situation it would come back to me.
Of course I don't know why he said to press F5,F8 is all you need to tap.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I meant to say F5 or F8. Wasn't sure which one. But thanks. I learned something today.

    • Pull the hard drive
    • Set the pulled hard drive to slave
    • Daisy chain the old hard drive to a working PC
    • Browse the old hard drive contents

Also, there used to be an old Linux bootable CD that you could burn, that would let you browse the hard drive without login. I can't remember what it was called, it's been so long since I used it.

    • This will work too. Although, you may not be able to access some things since Windows will continue to see the permissions. Any linux distro will be able to view the drive contents.
  • Open CD The Ultimate Boot CD are 2 I can think of.
