Short and the quick is they have to register their real name, and phone number before being allowed to create a blog, or post to any blogs.

Supposedly for censorship reasons.

I have a feeling USA will be adopting this policy as well.

Prob not for censorship reasons, but purely business.

imagine the possibilities, if you had a real name and phone number
for everyone that posts ... a veritable marketers wet dream

I doubt it will happen in the short term, but I agree that eventually, every connected person is going to have a unique ID that is traceable. Maybe not accessible to the general public, but certainly to the "Government".

To take it a step further, nobody will be able to buy, sell or do any kind of transactions ("legally") whether online or offline, without that government-assigned personal ID. This isn't going to happen for a number of years ... but it is going to happen.

China's new rules are just the tip of the iceberg.

It would take time to implement (say after 10 years). Majority of User wouldn't be in favor (me too) especially providing the Pvt Cell Number.
But seeing the online scam and fraud it would be necessary to do so..

That will be the justification the government uses to implement a system of universal mandatory IDs and sell it to the public.

        yeah,

they might throw it into the can spam act, or they might throw it into whatever bill they can.

But eventually some big business or big brother will see the huge potential pot of gold, pay some lobbyist to grease some politicians palms, and then ....

and by that point the snowball is already rolling down hill

I'd say it's highly doubtful something like that could happen in US.

I don't think it would happen. FBI/CIA/Interpol harvest a lot of criminals (and "wanted" non-criminals) who believe that they are operating anonymously online. Online activity can already be traced and it is more likely that investment would go into improving such technology rather than imposing new laws like those described in the article.

A national ID for internet users is already being "discussed" in the White house. We don't have that much longer.

Are you saying it will be a government created trigger event, or just saying they'll find some cause to seize and capitalize on it?

See HeySal's comment below. Never say "it can't happen here" because when enough people believe that, no one is watching the watchers and it will happen.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
