I was just wondering after watching angels and demons last night about what secrets the vaults in vatican city hold/ i mean there are kilometers of vaults and libraries that are off limits to people. i mean who gets to archive or inspect what are inside.

  • I imagine that anyone high up enough in rank to actually live in Vatican city could probably access the real records for research - outside of a few that the papacy has locked away from everyone. Considering that a lot of them would be written in now dead languages, there's not a lot of people that are going to be able to translate them even if they were right in front of their faces.

BTW - good show, wasn't it?
  • i read the book 3 times and watched the movie 5 times already. i just love it, me being the conspiracy theory kinda guy.

I have to admit with a vault that big just what kind of secrets do they hold. even the library is off limits to anyone. Even for scholars and researchers i mean what exactly are they trying to guard there? maybe the remains of christ or the arc of the covenant? it really sparked my curiosity bug.
  • Guys... You watch too much movies and you believe too much from guys like Dan Brown... Here --> access the Vatican Secret Archives --> Its been opened a long time ago --> Sito ufficiale dell'Archivio Segreto Vaticano – Città del Vaticano | Archivio Segreto Vaticano

    • Great post Paul! The movie doesn't really depict the real situation of the state. I hope people whose fond of watching fictional movie will go beyond the surface.
  • This one is a crackup in the Vatican locker room...

It seems, the Pope is more disturbed by the disloyalty of those who leaked internal documents about corruption, poor financial management, and money laundering in the Vatican ...than he was by corruption, poor financial management and money laundering in the Vatican. -

  • Oh, yeah...I forgot about this one -

Knights Templar 'Heirs' Sue Pope For Billions

    August 17, 2008
A group of people claiming to be the heirs of the legendary Knights Templar are suing Pope Benedict XVI, seeking more than $150 billion for assets seized by the Catholic Church seven centuries ago.

(btw: I read all those books too... )
  • Then here's one for ya - Holy Blood, Holy Grail - it's a compilation of the history and research D. Brown used to write his books Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code.

Some pretty interesting history. Unlike D. Brown, I did not get a best selling novel out of reading it though.

    • I read that when it first came out in the early 80's and it really opened my mind. It inspired me to do what a lot of people have never done, especially those preaching from it, and that is to actually READ the Bible.

I've never been the same since.

  • Do you have a link that can point me to a download site of the book/movie you were talking about Sal?

I haven't read or watched that movie. Was it really that good?

  • "Her ideology was that she believed in God, but not in religion."

That would be a good description of me.

    • Me too!

I come from a christian background and the more I see within that sect, the more I know that I am in no way quote unquote of the christian sect.

One of the best times I ever had was spending time with a Messianic Jewish Rabbi and the things he showed me were amazing and eye opening. He also read from original text in both Hebrew and Greek.

Added to time spent in studying the Bible on my own, I am now a believer in God but no religion.

I think man has pushed God out of a lot of the churches by believing more in their own creed than in Him.

Oh, and the word "religious" makes me cringe in the same way as fingernails screeching down a chalk board!

I just call myself a woman of faith.

    • I'm trying!!! It was way smaller when I looked at it...it's one of those you can 'click' and make bigger...I found out it goes from '292x369' to '1494x1884'! WHOA!

Can I resize this from here? I have been able to do it in the past with car pics...but some can and some can't... is there a secret? Anybody got a quick .jpg .tip they can lay on me?
      Oh well...
  • With hundreds of years of the faithful paying their 10% tithe, the church amassed great wealth. I'm only speculating, but I'm willing to bet a lot of the gold, paintings, silver and such has been sold off already. But they probably still have enough that would shock the heck out of us.

  • Hey - I deleted the post. It even LOOKED like too much work. Anyhow - I'm a techno-moron so I do a lot of stuff the hard way if I want it done bad enough.

Anyhow - David. I can just imagine what the vatican has in storage that it's not talking about. People who expect 100% transparency in any entity of that size, power, and nature are really just plain naive.
  • Nearly everyone was in the dark about any real evidence until Gutenberg went and invented that pesky printing press.

We wonder about what is hidden in the vaults. Effectually, nearly everything was hidden until the 13th century.

    • Good point - I never looked at it that way... it's that Guttenberg guy -
He almost ruined comedy in the 80's too...

And if those monks had just written 'celibRate' instead of 'celibate', like they were supposed to, we wouldn't have all those problems either...

  • Without getting in trouble for telling the truth, I am an EX-Catholic and put RABIDLY in front of EX.

I don't want to insult anybody for saying what is very obvious to anyone who really studies the Bible, and considers themselves a devout Christian (as I do), but let's just say I can't wait to see what happens at the Vatican when The Truth is revealed. I would say TOAST.
