I was just wondering after watching angels and demons last night about what secrets the vaults in vatican city hold/ i mean there are kilometers of vaults and libraries that are off limits to people. i mean who gets to archive or inspect what are inside.
  • Profile picture of the author HeySal
I imagine that anyone high up enough in rank to actually live in Vatican city could probably access the real records for research - outside of a few that the papacy has locked away from everyone. Considering that a lot of them would be written in now dead languages, there's not a lot of people that are going to be able to translate them even if they were right in front of their faces.

BTW - good show, wasn't it?

i read the book 3 times and watched the movie 5 times already. i just love it, me being the conspiracy theory kinda guy.

I have to admit with a vault that big just what kind of secrets do they hold. even the library is off limits to anyone. Even for scholars and researchers i mean what exactly are they trying to guard there? maybe the remains of christ or the arc of the covenant? it really sparked my curiosity bug.

  • This one is a crackup in the Vatican locker room...

It seems, the Pope is more disturbed by the disloyalty of those who leaked internal documents about corruption, poor financial management, and money laundering in the Vatican ...than he was by corruption, poor financial management and money laundering in the Vatican. -

well the library is accessible and has been opened but what about the vaults? the one where they keep important relics of the church or anything that may destroy the church? has that been opened as well? i think not.

Then here's one for ya - Holy Blood, Holy Grail - it's a compilation of the history and research D. Brown used to write his books Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code.

Some pretty interesting history. Unlike D. Brown, I did not get a best selling novel out of reading it though.

I agree Thom and just want to add that they didn't understand it so listened to someone else's interpretation who didn't understand it then they told two friends and they told two friends and so on and so on.

There are a lot of texts, and a special person, that have opened my eyes.

I was raised Christian. My uncle was a Doctor of Theology and extremely intelligent. He knew 8 languages, at least 3 of that are dead languages, and he used to read to me from original texts. We had very deep discussions. I have not read the whole bible cover to cover but I've read a lot of it. I have also done some comparative studies such as Enuma Elish/Genesis.

I no longer subscribe to any organized religion.

Pretty much the same background. Catholic father, Protestant mother that sent me and my brother to Sunday School every week. I knew all of the Old Testament stories without ever having actually read them for myself.

Which was why it was an eye opener to read them for myself as a (young) adult.

At about the same time I was stepping out with a gal who was on a spiritual journey of her own and we too had some pretty deep conversations at the time on the mysteries of life (the universe and everything ).

Her ideology was that she believed in God, but not in religion.

Wonder what ever happened to her.

"Angels and Demons" was the one the OP was talking about that I said was a good movie.

Holy Blood, Holy Grail is a book - real, not ebook.
The other book I mentioned was "Da Vinci Code" -- same author. Not sure if they made it into a movie or not but it was a good book. Also real - not ebook.

Yes, they made Da Vinci Code a movie also. And it's an excellent movie I might add.

I saw it and Angels and Demons and loved them both.

(it meaning The Da Vinci Code not Stephen King's movie "It")lol!

      Me too!

I come from a christian background and the more I see within that sect, the more I know that I am in no way quote unquote of the christian sect.

One of the best times I ever had was spending time with a Messianic Jewish Rabbi and the things he showed me were amazing and eye opening. He also read from original text in both Hebrew and Greek.

Added to time spent in studying the Bible on my own, I am now a believer in God but no religion.

I think man has pushed God out of a lot of the churches by believing more in their own creed than in Him.

Oh, and the word "religious" makes me cringe in the same way as fingernails screeching down a chalk board!

I just call myself a woman of faith.

With hundreds of years of the faithful paying their 10% tithe, the church amassed great wealth. I'm only speculating, but I'm willing to bet a lot of the gold, paintings, silver and such has been sold off already. But they probably still have enough that would shock the heck out of us.

Hey - I deleted the post. It even LOOKED like too much work. Anyhow - I'm a techno-moron so I do a lot of stuff the hard way if I want it done bad enough.

Anyhow - David. I can just imagine what the vatican has in storage that it's not talking about. People who expect 100% transparency in any entity of that size, power, and nature are really just plain naive.

Good point - I never looked at it that way... it's that Guttenberg guy -
