But hey, I kind of wanted to see the ad...(that Judge stated she 'doesn't understand' internet stuff...:p) the envelope and paper could weigh 4.90oz...(just sayin' :rolleyes

she didn't get a chance to properly "defend" herself -

The fact that this person is in the US, stupid enough to show up in court to defend 'caveat emptor'? - pretty funny...

I see this all the time on ebay, but usually from other countries...and I don't think they are stupid enough to show up in court - on a TV show -

I do love that though..."it stated it was for a picture of a cell phone - that she paid 200.00 for...what's so hard to understand?" :confused:

that woman was a scammer, but people have to remember this: this is a show that requires ratings to continue being aired. A lot of what is aired on Judge Judy and other reality shows is pure "drama" to get ratings.

A REAL JUDGE IS SUPPOSED TO BE UNBIASED. Judge Judy is everything that a real judge isn't.

Karen, She is a real judge,or at least was. And a published author. And of course she tries to get ratings,thats why her high and mighty attitude.I can't understand why any of the people appear on these shows except they want their 15 minutes of fame. But even so,the cases are real.
There is one of these judges shows where they admit (in small print at the end of the shows credits) that the cases on it are all fictional! Americ's Court with Judge Ross. Worst.Court.Show.Ever.
I don't know how Canada is,but here in America we have way too many of these shows.
IMO the only one I can watch is the orginal court show,Peoples Court.It started the court show scene and has been on for years,though it has been through many different judges.

Oh I know she's a real judge, Kim, but she doesn't act like a real judge, in that she's not unbiased and she asks questions which are totally unrelated to the case, like in this case, asking about the defendant's children. Totally uncalled for and unrelated. Meant to get reactions and to make the person look bad.

Whenever I've watched the show, I've been more annoyed with her attitude than with some of the plaintiffs/defendants.

TV in general sucks these days, with a few exceptions. I like the FOOD network, HGTV, and a few other shows, like The Voice.

) - I don't know where they ever got the term 'Civil' Court, with some of these guys for judges...but she does bring in ratings, and I guess that's what gives it 'justice'...

exactly. That's how I feel, too. But some people eat this stuff up. You ever watch the audience members? it's like they take pleasure in seeing people get bullied and humiliated. It's sick!

And in my opinion, that's what Judge Judy is - a bully.

You are right,Wapner didn't care for her and for the most part neither did the network people which is why she was not renewed and had to start her own show. He does however like the current Peoples Court Judge,Marilyn Milaino (sp?) and has appeared on the show with her.

Karen, Your post made it sound like to me that you didn't think she was a real judge. I was just mainly addressing the fact that she really is,but since she isn't in a real court of law she doesn't have to follow the rules a judge in a real court of law would. I also do not care for her and the way she treats people.I was not defending her in any way.
The state of current tv is abysmal. My wife loves the food Network.I usually watch History channel 1 and 2. And both my wife and I still watch Survivor,though this year they seemed to have picked the stupidest contestants ever.

And Karen, just like I said previously, it is such a sad indicator of how sick our society has become.You are right,most audience members of her show seem to relish the abuse she heaps on the people appearing.

I'm sure Judge Judy or her staff hand pick the cases that will get the most attention from the audience/tv viewers.

Nobody wants to see a case about trespassing or anything boring.

I've never seen this case/video, but I was impressed that Judge Judy allowed the max. penalty ($5k).

What both victims should have done is take the scammer to court for each individual phone scam & public lie the scammer made towards the buyer & her daughter. They might have gotten $10k (2 separate max penalty) from the scammer.

That scammer was a total idiot, lol.

Can't stand the show myself and refuse to watch it, and many like it.

@ Kim - I think Canadians have much of the same programming as you get in the States. We are being bombarded with the damn reality tv shows that cost peanuts to produce, yet we pay for prime-time. Just another big rip of.

Without some of the specialty channels, there would be nothing worthwhile watching anymore.

I can't stand Judge Judy, why is it even legal for a "honorable" judge to sit up there and attack people? Then threaten her children, mock her, over and over and over. This is sickening, and embarrassing for America to the whole world. She thinks she's so smart...if she were smart she'd know it's not ok to treat people like that, especially when you have a platform and power. Absolutely disgusting.

Now with that said clearly the large woman has been scamming people, so should have to pay the money back, but all the personal insults were out of line. Judges are immune to law suits too...the systems so corrupt, sigh.

I'm not sure if she would be immune since she is not acting as a real judge capacity on this show,but I am sure that they are smat enough to have everyone that appears sign a waiver stating they have to accept whatever happens.

I think she can be a mediator and hand out legally binding judgements. But I could be wrong.Like I said,I think the participants sign a contract stating they agree to be bound by the decision.Thats why most of the shows have a disclaimer stating these were real cases that have been dropped to be settled in this venue.I'm just making an educated guess though, I am by no means an expert on this.

I sure hope that this woman not only paid the fine but that she had a criminal case lodged against her by the Attorney General in her state.

I hope that she did time but not likely -

Agree 'Judge' Judy is really offensive - I usually don't watch her more than 5 minutes because she is so rude and condescending. However I watched the whole youtube above just to get to the part where the fat scammer got 'slapped' -

no gratification there as she was too arrogant to even show any emotions.

would have been fun to dump a can of paint on her head or something - anything to get an ounce of humility (even humiliation) from her smug face.

... and it does affect all online sales that there are so many people that get away with being filthy thieves.

p.s. Judge Judy:

She's married to former People's Court judge Jerry Scheindlin.

Prior to his time on the People's Court bench, Gerald Sheindlin served as a US Administrative Judge at the Social Security Administration in OH and NYC: from 1983 he served as a Criminal Court Judge, and from 1986 as an Acting Supreme Court Judge in Bronx, NY until May 1999; he served on the "People's Court" bench from 1999 to 2001. In addition to being a judge, he also wrote a book and coauthored another.
