R.I.P. Stevie
2002 my wife and I acquired a 2 year-old Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog. We got her from her 3rd owner, who found out that morning his employer was sending him to run one of their stores in another state. He needed to leave for the new location the next morning.
The local dog pound is a "kill shelter," but he didn't know where else to take Stevie. He lived in an apartment building located behind my office building.
Thus we acquired Stevie, and soon learned Stevie would jump the fence to try to follow us whenever we would get into the car to go somewhere. So I started taking this critter to work with me every day. Customers and their kids loved playing with her.
So Stevie has been with me almost 27/7 ever since. (Talk about becoming attached.)
About a year and a half ago, she almost died from a liver problem, but the Vet found a cure. I was devastated at the time. But all turned around.
Over the past 6 months or so Stevie's back legs kept becoming weaker and weaker. About a month ago she had a couple episodes during which she could not get up, and I had to lift her.
That's not easy to do if you are my size, and the dog weighs 114 pounds!
Last week her legs finally gave out completely, and it was time to (as my friend Eddie Lama calls it) "send Stevie up." OMG, I don't think I've shed as many tears when my parents passed away 12 years ago as I have this week over Stevie. Go figure!
At any rate, I just had to get that out. Here is Stevie Untitled Document
The last image really shows how large Stevie was. In the photo she is standing next to my mother-in-law.
