Old, but this guy built a freakin Lamborghini IN HIS BASEMENT!!

That reminded me of when my father worked at the ice plant.
In the winter it's a little slow in the ice business.
So one winter my father and another guy built a 20 ft. sail boat on the third floor of the plant. The next year they took it apart plank by plank, labelling each one and the guy took it home to re-assemble in his yard.

Wow, its amazing what we can find in ourselves when something turns us on so much that we just cant stop...

This guy is amazing. Looks like he just got obsessed with an idea and couldnt stop himself.

I do that with guitars (I know it doesnt compare) but I can literally spend DAYS on end killing myself over the perfect combination of parts... even to the point of dreaming them in my sleep.

The first 30 years I loved playing them... Nowadays I love the search for the perfect instrument. tone.... I know, its relative and cant be achieved in one guitar... But I get obsessed with guitar parts combinations... and it never ends because its never perfect.

Not to be compared with the amazing thing this guy has done and all his mad skills. But I understand the "obsession" part.

Heck I can post on WF for two days straight before I even realize it sometimes.

Obsession is an amazing thing. Not always negative, but it pulls things out of us that you otherwise wouldnt even believe went that deep, and takes you to places that you didnt even know men could go.

Ps. I'll bet if he sold it that would be a half million dollar year in the basement though!

On another note...

Sometimes I wonder if a good ole basic strat is just as good..., and if maybe I have just lost my mind and have come unglued in that area. Even down to "picks" I can get obsessed with what makes them have certain tonal qualities... and look at them for days on end, comparing, making distinctions... Every since tortoise shell was outlawed people have come to understand the difference in tonal qualities. Before, it was just all good so there was no polarity with picks...they were all made of the best material.

Obsession, gotta love that part of ourselves...even though it can be a bit distracting.

I think I remember seeing this story...Hey! It beats building bird houses!!

There was also the story of the guy who built a boat in his basement, with no apparent way to get it out...(oops!) :rolleyes:

It would be nice to have a shop large enough to get into these projects, without 'someone' telling you they take up too much space - :p

Guess this fella wasnt bothered by space. lol... Just a man with a mission ; "I'll figure out the menial task of getting it out later".

You gotta love that "Get the result, and ask questions later" attitude.

This guy had his eyes on a mission. Amazing Focus. Wouldnt it be great to have that kind of vision for your business?

Maybe a repeat OP, but well worth it. Great inspiring thread!

Ps. The obsession DID infact lead me to the perfect pick material... Now its about collecting them... and MAKING them... and the perfect bevel... Never ends. How to get the best tone out of the thing with the best tone. lol

Quite on the other side of the garage...I picked up a book to read the other day by Mark Frauenfelder (founder of BOING BOING) called "Made by Hand" where he's taking another route in DIY, by building things like a home-made toaster (I don't know really why yet either, seeing as how you can get a perfectly serviceable toaster for $10) but it comes highly recommended by Adam Savage and Seth Godin...so I figured I'll have a go -
(apparently DIY is used as a parable to take back control of your personal world, and think creatively outside the box)

If you tell me you killed the cow and fashioned the leather seats out of the cow material yourself... then I will freak.... maybe thats why its out in a field? You are trying to match a cowhide to the color and decide which one is gonna meet the reaper today and become a seat or steering wheel cover?

Hmmm.... maybe even some brisquette with potatoes and carrots around it. That sounds good. lol

And here I thought this was a story of poor planning when there was no way to get it out of the basement!

Definitely a story of ready, fire, aim.

You gotta know...The guy finished the whole thing and was really proud of himself...drug his wife down to see it...she gave a smirk...said "that is nice dear", paused and said "How are you getting it out of here?". With which he turned...opened is mouth...and no words came out for a few seconds...followed by "CRAP!".
