Warrior Rant!

I didn't know where to post this so I guessed here is as good as any.

For the past few days I've noticed a marked increase in new members spamming in threads, they don't bring anything of value to the thread and generally just agree with the OP or the majority of other posters. Sometimes their messages are even completely out of context and frankly quite bizarre. And on occasion even copying/pasting bits of other posters comments and passingthem off as their own .

Now, I think they're doing this for one of 2 reasons:
1. To get their post count up asap - But for what end? To PM?, big deal!
2. To broadcast their sig.

I was always proud of the fact that WF was pretty much spam free and we have the excellent mods to thank for that but I hope I'm not seeing what will become a bigger problem.

Ok, Rant over.
Thanks for reading

  • Well, at the bottom of every post on the left hand side there is a little red triangle. That gives you the ability to report the post to the Mods.
When you see SPAM, use it. After a few people do the same, the post is gone, and if the same person gets too many reports, they are gone(as in banned).
You might want to reread the forum rules, as it explains we are a self moderated forum.

  • This has been going on for years, and it's nothing new at the WF. The difference here is that enough of us take the "member moderator" idea seriously that posts like you describe get reported and deleted with regularity. That makes it seem like it's spam free around here, but it not.

You can help keep the spammers and crud out by reporting spam posts and spam threads. That little red triangle with the exclamation mark in it is where you click to report a post. The post will be automatically identified when the report page opens, so all you have to do is type "spam" or whatever your reporting the post for, click submit and you're done. You've helped the forum, maybe got a little satisfaction from reporting a spammer, and can go on about your business knowing you're one of the good guys.

Edit: I see Kim beat me to the punch. They don't call him "Old Lightning Fingers" for nothing.

Thanks both of you for the info, never noticed that little icon before, too busy reading threads I guess

Anyway, went back to do the deed and hey presto - they're gone, someone beat me to it.

      Cheers

  • Third (and hopefully last) Edit: I kind of agree with Mark. Sometimes it seem these spammers are actually using low access hours to drop their siglinks.
