Working from home is hard since you can take all the breaks you want and sometimes the day goes by without doing anything significant.
I find myself too easily distracted (might be the spring coming).
How often do you take breaks and how do you chill out between the long hours in front of the computer?

I work in an office and I typically take breaks between an hour and a half and 2 hours.

Lately i've been doing solid 45 minute sessions where I try to stay completely focused and then get up for 15 minutes and do a bit of housework and relax.

I find after about 45 minutes I start to slacken off and getting up and moving prepares me for the next 45.

    3 on 1 off.

That sounds pretty good 45-15mins intervals.
What the rest do in the breaks?

At least one small one every 2 hours or so. It's extremely bad for you long-term to sit at a desk all day, with little or no exercise.

Wow. This is the first time I have sat down since 7am this morning. It is now 10pm. Today was more hectic then usual but I never take a break except to quickly eat.

3 afternoons per week, I break for 2 hours to go to the gym and other than that- I just take a short break whenever I feel that I need one.

I love drinking Tea, so after every few hours, i get the urge of Tea and cig, so thats the only break i take, and i don't smoke inside my house, so i go out on my balcony get some fresh air and drink tea....Then i come back and start my work again...

Fresh air actually helps me brainstorm more ideas...

    Cheers

I personally take a break from my work every 3 hours for 30 minutes. Great time to walk the dog, have a smoke, get something to drink, and especially just rest the eyes, and let my mind wander for awhile. I never feel guilty for taking a nap, spending time with the family. Gotta live too.

  • It truly depends on what I am working on... but (for the most part) I work for 4-5 hours and break for 20-30 minutes. I've also tried the Pomodoro Technique, and I really like it, but usually use it when I feel like procrastinating... LOL
