What's the first music you remember hearing? The first music I remember hearing is Mexican and Cuban music my parents played and Beatles albums that my older siblings put on (mostly Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band).

    Probably The Beatles.

Edit: I'm wrong, thinking about it I would have to say maybe Ray Charles or Nat King Cole or even Gene Pitney possibly,I really can't remember.

The theme from Mahogany. Do you know where you're going to. My babysitter loved Diana Ross and she played all the time.

  • My older sister had every Rolling Stones album when I was little. When they were moving one time, her husband threw them in the dumpster...she almost killed him -

She would have gotten off with Justifiable Homicide, if any Judge is worth his weight in gavels...

She made him go out and buy them all on CD...but it's just not the same as good vinyl...

Not sure of exactly what it was, but it was 50's rock and roll, thanks to my parents. They always had the "oldies" station on (which now plays all MY music - boy do I feel old...).

My mother singing "My old man said follow the van..." to me as a toddler. You probably need to be a Brit to understand that one

My dad LOVED Johnny Cash and he used to play this song on the 8-tack player:

I was young... memories. We loved the train at the beginning of the song. It sounded like it went through our living room when my dad cranked the volume

Yeah, Johnny had a place in our house too. I may have heard him before Roger Miller, but don't remember it. I do remember listening to Ring of Fire, Folsom Prison and a few others as a kid.

You reminded me of another musician my folks liked, Jimmy Dean. Big Bad John or Ringo may have been the first song I liked, not sure which one came first. It's hard to remember so far back when you're an old fart. Threads like this one and the First Record You Bought thread favor the younger folks, so I want a head start.

Jimmy Dean did Ringo too, not sure whose came first, him or Lorne. Jimmy Dean was famous long before the sausage gig.

I remember 16 Tons too, still like that song . . . lots of songs are flooding back into my memory, but I'm not going to try to figure out which came first because it would take waaaay too long.

Yes, I know he was famous before the sausage gig, He lived here in Richmond.I can't remember if this happened before or after he dided,I think it was before, but if so it wasn't too long before, his house burned down and along with it most of his music awards he got over the years. But I never knew he did Ringo. Just listened to it. great version.

I was a big Tennessee Ernie Ford fan when I was a little kid.
      "Bless your pea picken heart."
Other then nursery rhymes, the Lieshtensteiner Polka is probably the first song I remember hearing. Followed by Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, and Gene Krupa.
At around the same time my next door neighbor started babysitting me (I was 5). He would bring over his 45's and we would listen to Elvis, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, and the like.

I remember singing that when I was about 4 years old with my sister...

...just about the same time as Pinky and Perky - I Never Promised You a Rose Garden.

Also this suddenly springs to mind from one of my all time favourite films - Jungle Book (which I still love to this day).
