Why Are People So Prudent Nowadays?

It seems that nowadays, people walk on their tippy toes so as not to sound "shrill" or come across like they have an opinion about anything of import (or, shudder, be thought of as a "liberal"). The mainstream news media is downright gutless, even more so than in the past, and mainly functions as the propaganda-spewing and cheer-leading section for the defense industry, corporate extremists and their puppets in government. De facto "political correctness" nowadays is to serve as a corporate mouthpiece and suppress any opinions or reveal any kind of conscience whatsoever. Mainstream media sources such as New York Times and Fox News only differ in style but not in substance. Most actual investigative journalists nowadays are independent bloggers such as Ernest Canning and Brad Friedman.

    I like NEWS - not the commentary or the opinion or the slant....the facts. That's getting hard to find.

    If you want liberal just spend evenings with MSNBC - that should do it.

    I agree about investigative journalism - it seems to have been replaced with speculative blogging and that's a loss.

      I don't know what the assigned purpose of MSNBC is. Owned by defense contractor General Electric (which may have featured in my great grandfather's murder), MSNBC seems to be what is known as a "gate keeper" to suppress the free flow of information. It's apparent purpose differs from its actual purpose,a front for a vast criminal organization, like the fronts for smaller criminal enterprises, eg health food store owned by Hells Angels or Yakuza-owned gift shop in Hawaii.

    News in the US is a joke, and Fox etc...are ILLEGAL in Canada because they don't allow false reporting. I bet as a result they have high quality news out there too. US media is all fear imposing sensualist trash. They keep everyone scared, that's their job, and they lie through their teeth and manipulate evidence like that Zimmerman tape. It doesn't make that situation any less sad but still, I can't stand listening to US media, is pure garbage. They silence out any truth what so ever, like Ron Paul.

      High quality news will be disappearing from Canada, except maybe for Internet. Pretty soon, Fox will have a prominent presence in Canada. The present leadership is very reactionary and reinventing Canada into Fox North.

    The news media has betrayed the American people repeatedly. This is nothing new. In my opinion, all the major news outlets are propaganda tools for government and big industry. Hard to find the truth anymore. Even harder to tell the truth from the lies.

    News ownership is not only high level corporate...it's also been consolidating over the last 10 years. You are not going to get news. Actually if you care to notice - anywhere news is categorized in the last decade or so (maybe longer) you will find it under "entertainment". Go figure.

    There's a very specific word now for journalists who tell the truth just because they feel we deserve the truth............

    Well,with home prices at $.01, gas that is free, lions, goats, humans, and all living peacfully together, and all being able to live ONLY on the atmosphere, and there being large plants EVERYWHERE, the existence of god and heaven proven, etc... What is there to worry about? HECK, we only have ONE religion, so there is no religious fighting. REMEMBER, god promised all of us that if we all get along we can live forever in happiness with NO needs and any space we want! OH YEAH, and everyone makes a billion dollars a year, and the world GDP is approx $12 SEXTILLION dollars! And with only ONE currency and all having the same pension and insurance, and collusion and the like being subject to even banishment from heaven, there is NO fraud, or class war!

    BTW sorry about religion, but my example needs it to illustrate the world is perfect now!

    Of course, I a poking fun. They aren't gutless. When I was a kid, you wouldn't say such lies, etc... because it would just sound idiotic. And having papers that had 3D elements on them and claiming they were copies of old 2D documents? Why would you expect ANYONE to believe it? And there WAS a time when people weren't so dissuaded merely by people claiming something is fact, though unproven.
