This week it's the 100th anniversary of the RMS Titanic.

The Titanic sank at 2:20am on 15 April 1912 on her maiden voyage after leaving Southampton, England on 10 April 2012. May God rest all those cherished souls in peace.

And fast forward to the present day...

If the Titanic is but a microcosm of our world today, what lessons do you feel we could still learn from this most unfortunate incident?

What are your thoughts?

What are your opinions?

What do you think about the issues of equality given the gap between rich and poor (1st class and steerage / working class) which divide seems to be getting ever wider?

The impending oil crisis not to mention all of the other factors on a global scale affecting everyone to one degree or another... how do you think the Titanic disaster provides lessons we could learn from for our very own future survival?

What do you think?

What parallels do you draw between the sinking of the Titanic and life today?

Lol. I know. I’ve got a good idea. Let's take the most tragic maritime disaster in History and set sail on the same course.

Right now 100 years ago all the passengers on the Titanic, right now as I'm writing this at 1823hrs (UK time) they would have been either getting ready for their evening meal or actually eating it.

Looking forward to the future ahead.

What many of them wouldn't know as the sun was setting this night 100 years ago was they would never see another sunrise again.

Big boat sinks to the bottom of the sea in 1912. How fascinating.

Yeah and the holocaust in the second world war...

      ...that never happened too.

What beats me is the greatest disrespect given not only to the people of Belfast with comments like this but also how this disaster affected the lives of a huge number of people around the globe.

Not to mention the gross disrespect for all those poor people who lost their lives and their relatives left behind, pain and emotional suffering which still continues to this day.

^^ Every disaster has a consipracy story around it. ^^

Yet facts always reveal the truth is much more "bland" than the "consiparcy therosits"

"9/11 was really a US Government attack"....You got to be kidding me?

Didn't really land on the moon,

JFK killed by secret US agents,

    Elvis was abducted by Aliens.

Titanic was what? Really sunk by UK spies? I to ohave heard some crazy stories..but they never pan out in real facts.

    Well maybe the facts of:

    Biggest liner of its time
    Maiden voyage
    Deemed unsinkable by its owners
    Loss of 1,500 lives
Only lifeboats for less than half of passengers
"2nd class and lower locked below decks so as to get 1st class toffs off safely
Amazing chain of extreme weather events that lead to the "accidental bump" with the iceburg (extreme refraction, sea temp. labrador currents etc.."
Ship speeding to collect Blue Ribbon in ice fields.
Lianardo De Capro's met the love of his life briefly.

I think all this makes it a little more of an event than

" Big boat sinks to the bottom of the sea in 1912. How fascinating."

Anybody in this forum actually lose family on the titanic?
is it now family legend? Do you actually think about them on the anniversary?

We lost family 9-11 and its still fresh enough in our minds that we have no choice
but to grieve a little when it come up in the news. AND it really pisses
us off when we hear some one say it never really happened.

100 years the Titanic hit the iceberg which was to sink her just 20 minutes ago. She's now slowly on her way to the bottom of the ocean.

Can you imagine the scene right now on board? Rumor just starting to spread that the Titanic is going down. People not believing it. Others just getting to grips with the full extent of the damage. The captain pacing on the bridge awaiting an update from the engineers.

The ship now still in the water.

Some people oblivious to what was about to transpire. A few others knowing the inevitable and knowing there aren't enough lifeboats aboard to save everyone.

0220 hours UK time she'll begin her final journey slipping below the waves to come to rest on the ocean floor 2 1/2 miles below not to be discovered until 1985.

    She's gone.

Just came to rest on the ocean floor a few minutes ago 100 years ago exactly.

At 2:15am I was down on the beach standing on the edge of the surf with a candle and some fresh flowers I picked from the garden saying a prayer for the lost souls at sea.

Even as I write this now the last remaining survivors would have been clinging on to life in the freezing waters of the north Atlantic Ocean exactly to the minute a century ago.

May God rest all their souls in peace.

  • I had to smirk at the irony today, when a spokesman said the Titanic was "practically unsinkable" instead of "unsinkable"...as it had been apparently touted at launch -

100 years later, and they are still in CYA spin mode...
