I just had Boston Pizza's Szechuan flavor pizza. The horror! It didn't even slightly resemble Sichuan flavor food. They made it with teriyaki sauce which is a Japanese flavor and even seemed to have used barbecue sauce. I don't know where to begin in describing how wrong this is. An analogy would be using Worcester sauce instead of Tabasco. It even seemed to have a hint of chipotle in it. I don't know what they were thinking in cooking up that Pizza concoction of theirs. Nasty!

Sure, pizza is not Chinese food, but if they're going to call it Szechuan flavor, they should at least spice it up like the food of that region. Real Sichuan food is hot and spicy, often using prickly ash oil, sesame oil, green onions, garlic, chili peppers, and soy sauce. The Boston Pizza "Szechuan" flavor did not have any hint of the flavor and spices used in that region of the world, while heavy in flavors from other regions of the world. Nasty.

I know curry pizza is awesome!

My girlffriend used to want curry and I always wanted a pizza. It was the perfect compromise.

I only get Dominoes nowadays though, now that I've reminded myself, maybe I'll get a curry pizza this weekend...

And I thought "Szechuan" just meant "hot as hell".
