Witches In Childrens' Movies

A number if children's movies feature witches, even if they may not explicitly be described as such. To begin:

Mary Poppins
She flies through air with an umbrella, can create wind carries people away, and can hop into murals, taking people with her. Only a witch could do that.

Pippi Longstocking
She can eat nails. Her grandmother was nourished with nothing but nails. Also, Pippi Longstocking was literally flying in the air on a broomstick. Only a witch could do that stuff.

Harry Potter
Too obvious to even elaborate.

Wizard of Oz
Also obvious.

Of course I can't agree at all with you on this one. You are confusing magical individuals with witches. But still, I found this for you.

"Only bad witches are ugly." LOL. I'll leave it at that.

So, some magical people fly around on broom sticks as Pippi Longstocking did but aren't actually witches? First I learn about all the subspecies of humans: Neanderthals, Denisovans (sorry Dennis), homo georgicus. Now, it turns out there are subspecies of magical people. What species of magical people can live on only nails as Pippi Longstocking's grandmother did. Or was she actually an extraterrestrial. Little human girls can't lift up horses or ride bicycles without wheels, but maybe an alien in the form a human red-headed little girl form could?

Can I go back and read Pippi Longstocking again and get back to you? it's probably been 50 years since I read it.

So what do you think about these two witches?

        and

If a nanny like Mary Poppins can be a witch, then a genie can be a witch too, right?

Wow, I don't know if a genie is a witch or what, but I I always loved those two, er, witches. I wonder why they didn't come to mind right away for me.

Probably because you were thinking children story witches, but come to think of it, I watched these when I was a kid.

      They're available on Amazon.
Amazon.com: The Pippi Longstocking Collection...Amazon.com: The Pippi Longstocking Collection...
Very true about movies and books. Screenplays and books are very different presentation formats. So, even though Pippi Longtocking author Astrid Lindgren was the also the screenwriter (it is very rare to be both), it will differ.

Actually, witches CAN'T! Mythically though, a NUMBER of beings can! Mary Poppins wsn't necessarily a witch. Were the chimney sweeps ALSO witches?

    Pippi Longstocking

That harry potter reference is interesting. You DO realize that th wizards flew on brooms ALSO, right? But OK, they called themselves witches.
