Many here in this forum swear by Bragg ACV.
Someone posted an article about it on FB and I decided to share it here.

The Truth is Not Told, It's Realized...
‎25 Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar should be a staple in every home. It has a wide variety of uses and you can't beat it as far as low price for health care! ACV is anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial.

To aid internal health make this:
2 Tbsp ACV, 2 Tbsp Honey, 1 Cup Water
Drink 1-2X/day for two weeks on, two weeks off. Then maintain by drinking 3-4X/week thereafter. This is just what I recommend because I'm a believer in too much of anything isn't usually the best.

1. Prevents flu and stomach illness
2. Dissolves kidney stones
3. Detoxifies the body of heavy metals and toxins
4. Regulates pH balance in the body
5. Helps relieve nausea
6. Helps relieve heart burn or chronic acid reflux
7. Helps relieve asthmatics
8. Helps relieve allergies
9. Helps relieve gout
10. Helps lower glucose levels in diabetics
11. Helps weight loss by curbing appetite and breaking down fat
12. Helps relieve migraines
13. Helps relieve sinus pressure and infection
14. Lowers blood pressure
15. Lowers cholesterol
16. Kills cancer cells or slow their growth
17. Reduces inflammation, relieve arthritis

To aid external health:
Mix 50/50 ACV and Water
Appropriately apply with cotton ball, soak, or spray on affected area

18. Gets rid of buildup on scalp
19. Conditions hair and detangles
20. Gets rid of fingernail or toenail fungus
21. Works well to clear up fungal, bacterial, viral rashes
22. Soothes bug bites
23. Gets rid of warts (put ACV on cotton ball, cover with Band-Aid, leave on over night for 1 week)
24. Balances pH in vagina, relieves yeast infection (douche with 1 tsp of ACV mixed with 2 cups water) Must rebalance good bacteria
25. Helps reduce/prevent acne (don't get in eye)

Drinking this recipe is a little like drinking beer or coffee for the first time. It's an acquired taste. I love it now and enjoy it just as I would a cup of herbal tea. Applying ACV topically on infected areas can burn so be careful if you use on children, but don't be scared to try it if diluted properly.
There are many more uses for Apple Cider Vinegar including pet care, garden care, bathroom, kitchen, and laundry care, and even automotive care! Get yourself a bottle or two or three so you always have it on hand. Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar is an excellent band, it is raw organic ACV which sweet mother earth provides. Cheap Health and Happiness ♥

After reading that I remembered a product an old local farmer came up with that uses ACV as it's base. People around here went nuts over this stuff for many years. All the excitement finally toned down, but it's still around...

I've been thinking about getting a juicer and mixing up some fruit and veggie juices with ACV.
This past week I did a some dietary changes in the cereal department.
I've noticed a big difference in my energy, general health and mental health.
Between that, the Coconut oil and the ACV, I feel like a 20 year old again.
I'm not tired anymore like I was and I don't need as much sleep as I did.

What is Bragg ACV, a brand name?

Can anyone here attest to the efficacy of using ACV for acid reflux, weight loss, allergies, relieving migraines, lowering blood pressure, or clearing up toenail fungus?

I've got the acid reflux and could stand to lose some weight, and I know others who have the other problems -- it would be nice to offer them a solution.

I drink ACV daily, but can't really answer your questions.
I do get acid reflux on occasion, but it's more from under eating.
I need to gain weight, have never had a migraine, or toenail fungus, so I can't answer those questions either.
Same with the blood pressure. Mine has never been high, in fact it's almost impossible to get mine to raise at all.
But I am arthritis free because of drinking ACV and that's what I wanted when I started drinking it

Actually, I was hoping you'd tell me more about the changes that made you feel younger and more mentally alert ... the changes in cereal and the coconut oil you mentioned in post #4.

          No problem Dennis.
I started adding pure organic, non-homogenized coconut oil to my diet a couple of months ago at a rate of at least two tablespoons a day.
Mostly I spread it on english muffins, but I'll also eat a spoonful out of the jar and it has pretty much replaced butter in my diet.
Here's a little bit about the health benefits of coconut oil.
          ww.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/organic-coconut-oil/health-benefits-of-coconut-oil.html
I started taking it for the stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels (which ACV also does), proper digestion and metabolism. I also had seen a video where a doctor was giving it to her husband who had Alzheimer's and the improvements where off the chart. Alzheimer's has been a concern of mine for a few years now as my half brother had it and possibly my father also.
So the ACV took my arthritis away which I had in most of my joints and my lower back, including Rheumatoid Arthritis in both thumbs.
The coconut oil was the final nail in the coffin for my stress and (hopefully) my depression. Both of which I have been dealing with for many years. It has also improved my circulation.
Now I'm not sure what has helped this or if was a combination of the oil and the vinegar. But the nerve damage I have in my back is also improving and for the first time since I had back surgery in 03 I have feeling in the toes of my left foot
Those two things gave me a pain free (for the most part) body and a clearer mind, I even have better memory retention.
The cereal I switched to is Newman's Own Honey Flax Flakes.
It's loaded with vitamins and minerals, which have been lacking in my normal diet.
I think where the cereal is helping is by giving me the right fuel.
So to recap, I'm pain free, have a clearer, sharper, stress and depression free mind, and have loads of energy.

I just found another article on FB that lists 50 vinegar uses around the house. These are for white vinegar and are mostly for cleaning, skin care, insect repellent, etc.
Reading through the list I remembered my mother and father used vinegar like that.

    Dennis,
I know Thom thinks highly of it and several others her do also. Over the years we have had several threads about its benefits but for me with my kidney failure I was unable to really try it. I'm going to run it by my Drs and see if they will give me the OK now.

Oh, I forgot to answer the original question, yes,Bragg is a brand name, you can find out about the people and the product here. And no affiliate link either.(don't even think they do affiliates, but I could be wrong).

I've never conducted any scientific experiments but I swear by Apple Cider vinegar for weight loss and kidney stones. I've never been able to get past the taste but I buy the Apple cider vinegar capsules from Herbal Healer.

It's not going to combat too many Big Macs but if you're trying to find an all natural way to boost your metabolism and detoxify your body, you can't do any better than ACV.

On a side note, I also buy Herbal Healer's - 4 herb tea. In my non-medical opinion, drinking the tea helps with a host of middle age inspired ailments and sledge decreases swelling, puffiness and rashes.

Myself I am currently tossing around 3 different courses of actions aka products to use.
1: ACV,which as mentioned we have discussed over the years down here several times.

2: A kidney health program that keeps your kidneys healthy and supposedly helps restore function. I got my transplant just before another friend on the forum who is in kidney failure found this product, buut he tells me that within two weeks he had restored energy, restored kidney function and felt 100% better overall. He has been using it a while now and he says it is still making him feel great.

3: is a nutritional plan that consists of taking 2 shakes a day and then having a regular meal. This plan has specific shakes for specific purposes. One group is to lose weight and another is to maintain and get healthier in general. I can't remember the others off the bat,but my problem is that I need to regain some weight. Between my triple bypass and the kidney transplant I lost about 35 pounds over the last 6 months, and I need to get some of that back, but in a healthy way.

So I am still investigating what I think will be best for me in the long run.

        Thom,
I can relate, all my life I was told that if anything it was low. It was never diagnosed as high till I was diagnosed with the kidney failure.

Just tried that myself due to the fact a chain link fence is hell when you're using a string trimmer.

Did a test section using straight WHITE vinegar. Not quite as fast or thorough as Roundup, but suitable...

Found out it is supposed to work better if you mix in a cup of salt and and a little dish soap (to help it stick).

@ Thom - Thanks for the further information. I'll probably give all that a try, even though my vitamin and mineral intake is apparently good. The only thing my doc recommended was to take vitamin D vitamins. That one kind of surprised me as I drink a lot of milk.

Probably a dumb sounding question, but is the kind of vinegar you're talking about the yellow kind, or will any do? Not being a much of a vinegar user except for Navy Bean Soup, I don't really know much about it.

Sunlight is a source of vitamin D, as are fish and beef liver. I was thinking milk was a good source but that's only if it's fortified with it. (You made me go to Google)

So now I see why I'm low on D, I don't eat liver and I only eat fish about once a year, which I do because I like tartar sauce. lol I don't get a lot of sun anymore either. Guess that's why I have a bottle of Vitamin D in my desk drawer.

If by the yellow kind you mean Apple Cider Vinegar, that that one
But it needs to be organic.
I know Kim told you about Braggs, which is the one I buy.

Salt, yeah, that's a killer. Years ago when I kept tropical fish, when I cleaned my aquarium I used to dump the dirty water on the outdoor plants. They loved it.

When I set up a second aquarium, this time salt water, I did the same thing and the salt killed about a dozen ferns.

No wonder I'd never heard of it, it's not sold in grocery stores (around here anyway). There is one health food supplement store here that carries it, so I'll give it a try.

          Thanks Tom!

An old neighbour, after she'd boiled potatoes, would throw the salted water outside to keep the weeds down.

Great thread everyone, I've a bottle of organic ACV lying in the back of the cupboard doing nothing - time to actually use it.

It has a faint coconut flavor. In fact when I first tried it I was disappointed at the lack of flavor. When I brought my first jar home I eat a spoonful plain, cause I love coconut But the taste was closer to crisco then coconut So I made canna-coconut oil out of it and madea big batch of brownies Delicious by the way.
The next jar I bought was a different brand and it tasted the same as the first one. It has just enough flavor for a butter substitute, but not enough to make everything taste like coconut. Like I mentioned earlier I like it on english muffins with just a small pinch of organic sugar. I'll cook my eggs in it and spread it on my toast. It's even good for making grilled cheese sandwiches.

I know this though, they both hurt like hell till I started the ACV and in fact that's why I first tried it.
Well I am a little worried right now about THUMBS - I have a chart somewhere in this house from my chiropractor that shows how everything 'links' off the spine - for some reason I am thinking THUMBS is HEART. (I remember only the big toe is the brain). (wonder where my memory could be)

I think drum sticks though could be a factor - I use a shake weight the past year or so and it really started hurting after I started that -- and it is like a big fat stick - I am trying to hold it while leaving my thumbs free and that seems to help - but that may just be the irritant - the inflammation is there sticks or not, ya know what i mean?

A lot of naturopaths attribute all ills to inflammation - the whole gamut but particularly arthritis and joint pain - so it makes sense to me that something like vinegar would be an anti-inflammatory.

... white vinegar cleans mirrors great - but my house is so full of nicotine tar that I literally have to use rubbing alcohol to clean my TV screen. not joking it is the only thing that works.

  • I don't know if it has ever been listed as a usage, but I have been having an off / on tooth ache for the last couple of days, and usually use clove oil for that sort of thing...

But yesterday I had some bragg ACV in a glass already and took a sip of that, and I don't know if it is the acidity, or the antiseptic qualities...but the ache went right away (not forever, but probably as long as benzocaine) -
Has anyone tried this or heard of it suggested?

Dennis: There is a big difference between Vitamin D2, sold in cheap vitamins and all we got over the years and D3.

D3 is the one to get and is the one that is the 'sunshine' - I take about 2000 IU a day (800 is all you should take of D2) - if any - you will note in this article they actually say it can be dangerous.

I know two really sick people that their doctors are telling them to take 10,000 IU of D3 -

Thom: it is so weird - I think I have rheumatoid arth - BOTH THUMBS - I have other minor arthritis in various places from injuries etc over the years but for some reason my thumbs are killing me and one actually looks like it's dislocated in the knuckle.- so that's why I am thinking rheumatoid - WHY thumbs? (also read smoking can be linked to rheumatoid).

Kim: I am going to try ACV (kidney stones etc) but I am afraid if it doesn't taste good I won't do it. That's how I am.

Just sharing. I use Dates Cider Vineger as my daily diet and it works the same as ACV.

I am consuming (after dinner) a tablespoon of DCV, 2 t/spoon honey with a little roselle juice to smoothen the taste.

If you jog a little, It helps to sweat so that your body fluid can be refresh and keep your cholesterol level stabilized. Whenever I had heavy or late dinner, I add extra tablespoon of DVC or ACV and next morning, my tummy feels flat.

Dont be like me until you are diagnose with a clogged heart before reaching 40.

        Start today.

    Hy,
Thought I should attest to the powers of ACV. I had a condition that I used prescription drugs for - for years (9 to be exact). I used a variety of brands and the only thing they had in common was - they all worked till they didn't.

Started using ACV externally and less than two months later my condition of 9 yrs, gone! The ACV has to be unfiltered though and diluted like you mention. Glad you shared this with fellow warriors.

Get as much of your D as possible from sunlight. When you take supplements your body doesn't produce the sulfuric substance it does when you are exposed to the sun -- and that substance is a cancer killer and inhibitor. After all the propaganda the FDA allowed the sunscreen manufacturers to push down the medical complex's throat it's really hard to get people to realize how much damage they are doing to their bodies when they don't get enough sunlight. Burning is not a good thing - but you should get at least 20 minutes of sunlight every day you can get it. Use the supplements. .. well....just as the name "supplement" suggests - when you can't get the sunlight.

I used to get heartburn now and again and always dosed with a tablespoon of CV for it. The burn actually is a LACK of digestive acid. Doctors will give you something to even further reduce the acid - which can cause problems if you do that too often. It burns for a second after you drink it if you just swallow a shot like I did - but after a second or two everything is all good.

Thom - I've stayed away from coconut oil because I don't really care for the taste of coconut. Does the oil have a coconuty taste or not? When you said "butter" I figured maybe it doesn't taste so much like coconut.

    This is really good information.

My fingers hurt. And it's getting to the point where they are swollen and I can't make a fist in the mornings. They get better in the afternoon, but still pain in my joints.

I'm thinking the cause is from decades of typing. I notice my pain is worse after I play golf. The day after I play my fingers are really swollen and typing is starting to get painful.

I'm going to try a few of these suggestions, starting with ACV.

Call me crazy, but I just take mine straight up like doing a shot and I actually sort of like the taste.

Okay, this is coming from a kid who would beg to drink the dill pickle juice when the pickles were gone.

Anyway, I started taking it to help with my allergies that would go into allergy induced asthmatic bronchitis and sometimes into walking pneumonia within 24 to 48 hours after the onset every dang fall!

But since I started using it, I haven't experienced either of those.

If it tastes gnarly I think a 'shot' would be much easier to fathom than sitting there drinking it every day - so Terra - you mean a straight shot - not diluted right?

Is there a reason why it should be diluted - anyone know?

Yes Pat, a straight shot and not diluted at all.

I'm not sure why the others dilute it, but I'm thinking perhaps they can't handle the taste and therefore dilute it with water and add honey for flavoring.

But If I'm wrong, maybe someone else can explain.

Terra I dilute mine with water for two reasons.
First the original treatment I found was for 2T. in 8oz. of water.
Second at the time I started the acv I was trying to quit soda and just drink water. Problem is I don't like the taste of plain water.
So I went to 2T of acv in a 16oz. bottle of spring water, I'll add a little honey or agave nectar sometimes but usually it's just the acv and water.
I really like the taste so now in addition to the acv I drink 4 or more 16oz. bottles of spring water to boot.

Well, I certainly didn't expect to hear someone using it to flavor their water so they would drink more of it.

But that's cool you found a way to drink more water, that in itself is very healthy. Oh, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the taste.

I have completely fallen in love with coconut oil and use it for EVERYTHING. Literally. I buy it in 5 gallon increments and keep it all over my house. I even have some in the car.
This sounds a little more like bordering on a coconut oil fetish :p
It looked like cooking with it and eating it was the last thing on the list!

I was thinking of what might be a silly ACV question also: Is "mother" mat like sourdough "starter"? In that, they are both yeast based, would it benefit you to use a bit of older fermentation to enhance or speed up a darker and richer ACV - would it ruin it, or make it better?
I was just curious, as I was getting to the end of a bottle I've had for awhile that is dark like ale, and the fresh bottle is golden...

Ah, we could only Dream

It's like that old joke...How do you know when cottage cheese is bad??

Thinking about it, I guess adding old culture to new in this respect was kind of silly, but since they did it with culture starts on sourdough and some wine for a unique characteristic...it was just a thought. When I read the Bragg page about the expiration date, it said they had to put one on for the FDA req., but that ACV like white vinegar never really goes bad, and can be used well past the exp. date...

You're right ACV doesn't go bad.

Yes Terra, you are krazy. Doing it like a shot would definitely make me ill.

Didn't we discuss a German drink a couple years ago that had the acv in it called a snizzle,or something like that?

Great thread here with lots of good information for what ails ya! Thanks all.

Terra, yeah WATER!- even with nice tasting ice cold spring water I have to use lemon juice, mint teas, and green tea just to get some down that is not coffee, which used to be my main source of water until I got kidney stones twice.

(My urologist really confuses me - everything I have read says kidneys and coffee no no - the last thing he said to me is 'coffee is good - it is still water'.)

Pat, while I was on dialysis I was drinking a quad expresso,so I was getting the caffiene but not the large fluid intake. After the transplant they are all telling me coffee is on in moderation because it is a diaretic(sp?).

I'm not sure about that, but mine is caused by excess acid. Hyperacidity it was called 25 years ago. No matter what I eat or drink (even water) my stomach overproduces acid. It goes up into my esophagus, and sometimes when I'm sleeping it would go all the way up and into my lungs. Nothing in the world hurts like that. The first time it happened I thought I was going to die. I couldn't breathe at all.

Anyway, I just had an upper GI and the excess acid burned and scarred my esophagus, a condition known as Barrett's (sp?) lining. It can cause cancer, so now I have to get that checked every three years. My doc put me on a prescription for it. Wow, what a difference. It's like having a new lease on life not having to worry about having antacids with me at all times.

I don't like the idea of being tied to prescription drugs either though, thus my interest in ACV for heartburn.

If that is the case - why aren't you drinking a little baking soda in your water to neutralize the acid? It will also straighten out your body's ph.

    Wow. Really confusing, Kim.

I think the key though is that word 'moderation' - that works with everything, right!?!

I still don't understand all the sites online about kidneys that say coffee is not good - maybe this is one of those situations where 'the doctors may be right'.

Man, how do you think I feel?
Maybe I'll get energetic or just feisty and post a pic of my daily (for life) intake nowadays.

Hard to carry a box of baking soda and water around with you. I used to get heartburn from everything, even just bending over. If I didn't take an antacid within a minute or two ... well, suffice it to say I'd be in trouble.

I can only imagine, Kim. My dad went through dialysis for about 3 years before he decided enough was enough and quit his treatments. Wish he would have told me so I could have said goodbye. When I found out I tried to go see him, but he passed away about 5 hours into my 7 hour drive.

Anyway, we all do what we think is best. I admire the battle you waged and how you stayed involved here. Big thumbs up, dude . . . but I'm still going to see if I can overcome the heartburn with ACV instead of prescription drugs.

Ok, so I haven't slept very well the last couple nights. Must be why I had a VERY strange dream last night. Several of us were in a bar and looking kind of green around the gills...well, all except Terra.

She was just smiling away and every time we tried to get up to leave she would say "Oh no, just ONE more"...as she went around the table and poured us all another shot of straight ACV.

With all these straight shots of Apple Cider Vinegar going down...I'm curious - is it that especial kind of acv with the worm in it? Who ate the Worm ?

    Yes - Miss Terra X (Dominatrix) -

I have ignored all the good news about ACV for years now just imagining the bad taste - UNTIL our own Miss Terra K enlightened me to the option of doing a straight shot - now I can't wait to get started (go to the store Pat - this sometimes takes an act of congress or running out of something critical)

You've got the guys dreaming about you. That can't be all bad for whatever reason...
