You Want Integrity? Bull Cookies

Major rant coming. I mean MAJOR rant.

We all have been there. We see a site that says "Only X number will be sold"
and then we find out that it's a lie (more are being sold) and we complain.

We say we want integrity. We say we want a marketer to mean what he says.

Bull ****

I have a product that's sold out.

I'm in the middle of a heated argument with a prospect who wants me to sell
the product to them, even though it is sold out, or at least divulge the info
about the product.

I refused and am getting heat over it.

We don't want integrity folks.

What we want is our OWN way and I'm sick of it.

You can't win in this business.

You say only X and sell X + 1 and you get hell for it.

You say only X and sell ONLY X and you get hell for it.

That's why when people rant about all the "bogus" marketing ploys and that
they're so "outraged" I now take it with a grain of salt.

Because all they REALLY want is their OWN way.

/Rant

    Steven,
I understand what your saying but this is how people think:

(At least if it is a digital product).

This is a digital product therefore it can never be "sold out".
In the future you might want to say something along the lines of As the product owner/creator I have decided to limit the number of copies that I will sell to "X" amount. Once they are sold that is it.

That way no one can say,its digital so it isn't sold out.And all you have to say is,I said I was limiting the sales and I did.And tell the person to move on.

    Just my two cents worth.

That's EXACTLY what I said in the sales letter. I am LIMITING this to X
      number sold.

It's one of the attractive features of the product, scarcity.

That's one of the reasons they buy it, but when they can't, they pitch a fit.

      Tempest in a teapot, Steve.

I agree with sticking to your word on the number of copies sold - but within reason. The difference in selling 200 copies or 201 copies isn't an integrity-buster to me.

Fact is, you can tell the person "that product is no longer being sold" - and mean it. No sense in being drawn into a debate or argument about it. He can't continue to argue if you simply say "no" and stop there.

  • We have heard it all before, and made a purchase based on limitation only to find it is just a come on. If you stick to your statement, at best someone at your next launch, or even this late tryer may step up and offer "He means it, if you want to buy it - don't wait. I tried."

    You Snooze - You Lose.

    Some people are just narcoleptic.

But, on the plus side - you could consider it flattering, and add them to your list.

How about "closing" the sales thread and notifying everyone - with large red print "THIS WSO/PRODUCT IS NOW SOLD OUT".

If they harass you via pm, either report them or block them.

The last time I limited the number of something one of my list members wanted to buy after I closed it. I said I couldn't let anyone else in until some else dropped out. He said, "I can appreciate that. Let me know when you get an opening."

    Steven,

This has been discussed SO much here! People INSIST that you sell only X if you say you sell only X because the idea was you priced it a certain way due to the limit! Not telling what it is is OFTEN an attempt to sell people what they already know, or could find out. ALSO, alliances add ANOTHER level of dishonesty. So people may delay. There are a LOT of reasons why someone feels the limit is not fair, etc... They KNOW you still have the info.

Steve...wtf does that have to do with anything. So what if I still have the info? I am within my rights to say that I am only letting X number of people have that info. There is nothing unethical OR illegal about it.

If you're trying to justify people's reasons for hesitating, fine, but then they have no right to bitch when the product is sold out. It was clearly stated in the sales letter...only X number going.

Maybe, once he reaches his limit, he should add a video of him smashing his computer with a sledgehammer...?
