    I agree Kim.

I REALLY like Depp. I see him as an AMAZING actor. But, in this case, I think he should have said no...out of respect for the character and Frid.

Dave, from the trailer I saw they are making the movie into a comedy too. I'm not really liking that idea either.

Comedy? Oh well, even Depp was bound to disappoint me at some time or another.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. How good it will be will be determined by
how good the comedy writing is. Depp will be perfect as he always is.

Don't count this one out folks.

Heck most of the people who will see it weren't born when the original Dark Shadows was on.
With movies like this I tend to 'forget' the original and just watch the movie for what it is.
Back in 1967, I used to rush home from school to watch Dark Shadows. It was
the campiest soap ever to come on TV and so ahead of its time.

Jonathan Frid was beyond description and the evil vampire. He made the whole
show. Without him, there was no Dark Shadows...period.

The story line where they went back in time and everybody got to play two
    parts was priceless.

Kate Jackson played Daphne Harridge towards the end of DSs run in 1970-71.

I like Depp too (one of my favorite actors) but nobody can be Barnabas Collins
    except for JF.

My friend...you will be sorely missed. Thank you for the legacy you left behind
as one of the most identifiable characters of all time.

Oh, it looks like it might be very funny, but in my opinion it won't really be a version of Dark Shadows.
Things can be campy and appeal to the masses, take the 60s batman series for example. I always hated it,thought it was terrible but it still has a fanatical cult following.

Ah man, how can you hate Adam West and Burt Ward? Yeah, the acting was
terrible. The scripts were corny. The villains were a hoot and the show, watching
it today, is even worse than back then.

And that's why you love it so much. It doesn't get much worse and still be
      enjoyable.

Kind of like "Plan 9 From Outer Space" made for TV. LOL

      Farce Shadows.

That probably wouldn't build anticipation like the original name though...

I like it...it looks intentionally campy, which is the only way it could have been done without disappointing anyone.

I loved the original series and Jonathan Frid, but I also liked the remake with Ben Cross as Barnabas.

What clips I have seen from the new movie are disappointing to say the least. Starting with the makeup on Depp.

I read one time an interview with Jonathan Frid talking about how they were so limited time wise and could only do so much with makeup and such.

It was in fact his fabulous acting that made the vampire both evil and vulnerable.

Anyway, I agree it looks funny and I will watch it when it comes to video, I was just saying it isn't like the soap opera version ( which is what it originally was suppose to be, a gothic type soap opera). That's all.

Oy. Major brainfart. I forgot about that. I was thinking this thread was just about the movie. Long day. Idiotic post. Move along. Nothing to see here...

Oh no. There goes another piece of my childhood and some good memories. Seems like our youth's are taking an extra strong thrashing this week.

Not sure whether I'll see this or not - but I saw clips and I think that it will be entertaining enough in its own right to be a fun movie to see. And if I've got my head on straight, I do think that entertainment is still the main point.
