Dwain Chambers will be fast-tracked into Great Britain's athletics squad for the Rome Golden Gala after he was cleared to compete at the London Olympics by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The CAS ruled that the BOA's life ban bylaw was contrary to the World Anti-Doping Agency code because it represents an additional sanction.

He was found guilty of taking the anabolic steroid a few years ago.

should there be a life ban? Trouble is some sporting bodies are more lenient in certain countries...there has to be consistency do you think?

Think of all the clean athletes who have stood on the podium beaten into second or third and have been denied a gold medal!

Should there be a world wide agreement on LIFE BAN FOR CHEATS PERIOD?

It doesn't. A law is meant to solve or regulate a problem. In some countries, 20 years for a murder is enough, in some 10 are enough, in some not even a life sentence will do the trick. Different countries have different cultures and ways of being, therefore each country will respond different to a law, which means you won't get the maximum of efficiency unless each law is adapted to the needs of that country (or state).

    The same in sport.

It seems to be the case anyway.

Yes, I think there should be a real meaningful world governing body ONE outlook with consistently.

Ban them from participating in ANY sports if caught.
But that should also go for unsportsmanlike behavior.
Just might actually help make these events real sports again.

Cheats in any field are scum. They should be treated as such.

If an athlete gets caught cheating by taking performance enhancing drugs the next time he competes again people will always assume that he is taking something. Then there's also the question about the sports he won prior to the discovery of the drugs taken, whether he was using these PED or not. In my opinion it really isn't worth taking.

Valid point , always going to be issues when they are caught. competing athletes would say, I remember that race he just pipped me for the gold, but they never tested him for drugs then?

You don't hear many baseball fans outside of Yankees trolls claiming that David Ortiz is still on PEDs, so it's not always true.

First...There are varying degrees of cheating. Is a basketball player or a soccer player that "flops" pretending he's been fouled a cheater? If so, should a cheater of this type be banned for life?

Second...How do we define "performance enhancing"? Gatorade is "performance enhancing". Aren't vitamins and other supplements also performance enhancing? I've read articles where an athlete had surgery to repair something, and the Drs respond that it's "better than before it was injured"...And, aren't all surgeries "performance enhancing"?

That is a good point Kurt, grey areas where perhaps mistakes occur, should be benefit of doubt, if they can prove with out doubt it was out of innocence etc. But with Dwayne Chambers, it was not a case of him falling on a needle once, but a daily routine of injections to enhance his performance. In his case he was sorry when caught.
But if he was not detected he would have carried on taking drugs.
