I am doing a case study for a research project I am working on for some grad school studies. Your participation in this is totally optional and your name will be an alias. I would appreciate any responses, and thank you in advance for your time if you choose to participate.

(please write this in 1st person, about 1 page). Please provide your “tattoo story.” Explain your tattoo symbolic significance, a (e.g., Why did you choose [a dragon; a butterfly; etc]? What does it mean? How did you go about choosing it?) Why you chose to put it on a particular part of their body; how much it cost and where you had it performed; do you ever regret it, or plan to get more. Any other info that you feel is important is also helpful, including your ethnicity, background, age, and religious or non religious affiliation.

If you aren't comfortable posting this information here, you can always email me at max[at]50media.com

Thank you kindly.

    I have 2 exclusively spiritual/theological tattoos.
I have one that is a Japanese kanji for Heaven.
I have one that says "live free or die".

I have two tattoos. One tattoo I regret and one tattoo I don't regret. Both tattoos remind me of my ex-husband and that's what I really regret. And no I did not get his name.

Thinking of getting (a black) Phoenix tattoo.

Because (not only does it look cool) I resonate with the idea of “death” and “rebirth” and “rising from the ashes.” (Etc.)

  • I wanted a tattoo. That was until every Tom, Dick and Harry had one! Everywhere I go i see young kids covered in tats. Now im not saying it's all bad. But some you can see are just doing it because another guy is doing it. Now I would be open to the idea when something means enough for me to get it tattood on me. But until then, my skin shall remain bare

I have a verbal tattoo - my words (and of course my deeds) are my "impression" on the world (and no amount of artificial ink can match it)

I prefer to leave my skin as pristine as possible, but that's just me

I felt that way about wearing one earing. Years ago when I had my ear pierced it wasn't a fashion statement like it is today it had some meaning behind it. Same with tattoos. I've got a slew of them and they all signify a time in my life or reminders to me of who I am. Like my "Live Free or Die" tat below.

Yeah exactly. I would be happy to get one when it means something to a time in my life. Not just any old symbol that I think looks cool at the time. It should be something to remind me of something good, someone passed, something meaningful

I have 2 sleeves of tattoos and actually have a tattoo appointment coming up this week! I'm a tattoo artist and have been tattooing for over 10 years. I only do it for fun now... I have been doing full time internet marketing for over 6 years. but here are some pics I had on my pc of some of my black and grey sleeve.

I grew up on old classic monster movies so I got all of the classics in one sleeve... Frankenstein, creature from the black lagoon, the Mummy, Dracula, Phantom of the opera, The wolfman.

This is a somewhat recent tattoo... I got about 5 months ago... it's not finished yet.

I got this tattoo for my son... his name is Aiden. he was born on october 17th 2007.
So in the reels of the slot machine is his birthdate... 10/17/07

His birthday is close to Halloween, and like gambling, so I wanted a cool Halloween style slot machine... and instead of coins pouring out... it has candy.

I HIT THE JACKPOT AND WON AN AIDEN! lol

whatever I have alot of tattoos... I could go on about this forever.

This is what I use to do when I was 10. I remember, my sister use to draw these cute cartoon characters on my left arm with colorful markers. Sad she passed away at a very young age, missing her badly

Largely depends on where you get it but it really isn't much worse than a sunburn, well after the outline work anyway

  • Personally, I don't care for some of the really stupid tattoos, or the crazy people who wear them - for most it looks like a cry for attention - "look at me!!!" "I'm an individual!! - like everybody else!!!" - I am especially fond of the mutant tattoos that are spelled wrong - (you do know that doesn't come off easy right?) First question to ask a tattoo artist? Can you spell?

But then - there are people who take the concept of body art to another level - not a cheap velvet painting on skin - real art. Art that astounds. From the tattoo of the Yakuza, to new levels.

I just ran across what I think would be one of those... Now this is a Tattoo. Trompe l'oeil on skin.

It is hard to think this is not just photoshop. I can't prove it isn't...if it is real, it's art.
(just for the record - on the forum I got this off of, many think it is fake, and many think it can be done.)

Being a skinny guy with hardly any body fat, I've got to say getting tats on my ribs freakin hurt The one I got on my collar bone wasn't much fun either.
My youngest daughter got her first tat on the calf of her leg.
Her second one she got on her side, it goes from just below her arm pit to just above her hip. You should of seen the look on her face when the guy started the outline on her ribs.

Sorry but there is no link between skin cancer and tattoos. You are partly correct with the blood thing, you have to wait a year between your last tattoo and when you are eligible to give blood. Not an issue for me, they won't take my blood in the states because I lived in Europe in the late 80s and may have mad cow disease... (so THAT'S what's wrong with me)
