What is the deal on infractions?

I received an infraction while I was sleeping. I bought a web site from a member here. What I got was crap in my mind. They guaranteed I would make AdSense income. I did, I think $0.35 was my highest days earnings. I expressed my displeasure and got an infraction or it. Plus my post was deleted. I thought buyers hat the option to respond with feedback. As I remembvwer, all I said was that this was garbage, with a graphic of cash going down the toilet.

So I do not have any opportunity to dispute this????? WTF! Can I give this turd an infraction back for selling garbage?

I think this ^^^ is right, Tim.

Don't "infract" him back in preference to discussing it with a moderator, anyway: that can only make things worse, rather than better? I think you might even be putting yourself in the wrong, if you do that?

I once got one for having "the wrong colors" in my sig-file banner (from someone who imagined that banners could only be blue or black, like sig-file text ... or maybe it was just someone who wanted to give me an infraction and couldn't find a real reason?) but one of the moderators kindly attended to it for me. :p

So do I. The infraction is a lie. It states I insulted another member and I said nothing abour any member. I only spoke of the product.

So any member can tell a lie about you and you get an infraction. What a bunch of horse pucky. I think I should give him an infraction for lying about me.

Infractions are not a biggie so don't stress...
I would (if i were you) contact the mods re: your purchase though, maybe you can get some help there.

I don't understand the part about your post being deleted. If you bought the product, you are entitled to express your opinion, positive or negative.

I would try it again and possibly be just a bit more politically correct. Personally I really appreciate when people post stuff like this and save me from buying low quality stuff. Not that I buy much anyway.

Infractions are like someone giving you a tap on the wrist and saying don't do that. They're meaningless unless you get an awful lot of them.

As to the feedback getting nuked, it sounds like you didn't really give an objective, thought out review.

Saying "this is garbage" is completely valueless. If you gave your feedback in more objective terms, it wouldn't have been deleted.

        DING!

The pic was also pointless and rude. Re-post the review, with a factual commentary, avoid the drama, and you'll find it stays.

Yeah. I deleted that one. And you should have known better.

I wouldn't sweat the infraction, but I would ask a mod why your post was deleted. To my way of thinking, a review is supposed to be a fair review. You probably didn't need the graphic of a toilet to leave a fair review.

Refractions have little meaning. Don't sweat it.

As for expressing your opinion, you can if you do it right. Stick to the facts. Calling it garbage and posting an image of money going down the toilet isn't sticking to the facts, so it was deleted.

You can detail what you think is wrong with the site. For example, the layout doesn't make sense, the header is grainy with jagged edges, the location of the ad units don't make sense.

Do it right and keep your emotions in check and it will probably stick.

No need to sweat it and no need for a Mod. You can reverse the infraction yourself.

If infractions mean nothing and we can reverse them up ourself ? why do we have them at all? old ways past.

I can't answer that. I wondered the same thing.
But here is the deal. A new member was harrasing me in public and in PMs.
I would give him an infraction and minutes later it was gone.
        Rinse and repeat.
I finally asked a Mod what was going on and that is when I learned the person that got a refraction could reverse them themselves.
I don't know if things have changed since then or not,but I'm guessing they haven't.

          Kim,

Infractions do serve a useful purpose. First, they act as a nudge from one member to another about things they might want to watch out for. That's useful. They also get copied to the moderation queue, so we see them and can get involved if it's warranted.

If they had real power beyond that, they'd be abused by trolls and petty people with their egos in an uproar.

Well I am going to chip back in here after getting my first 2 infractions, dead straight what a shambles, I was given 2 infractions for callling some one out for spamming people on the forum.

so now i cop a bad rap sheet and the bad guy walks away, there is no need for infractions here, if people have a problem they should report it, letting num nuts run around and play sherrif / issue infractions just tends to piddle people off.

lets see they get to spam members and give warnings / what a system at work.

Kim I reversed them but they still show on my records as for giving them back, that stuff is for the children who give them out, right now i am pizzeled the a person can have these things attached to thier name by these idiots.

Serously pizzeleded with this nut and I want him to get them removed . this sort of crap should just not happen, there is not one thing that is right about it, not one. this infraction crap is misused as much as the spam is here.

I am chilled these days but when people give my pocket a warm wet feeling, then i roll my toes back and this tosser has done that.

There is some way they don't show, but I don't know what it is, I had some I gave reversed and after the guy reversed they were not showing up.

As far as giving them back, I really worded that poorly, what I was really trying to ask was did you give him the infractions in the first place which is what made him give them to you, because, yes its childish but that is what happened to me when I was having issues this guy.

I have seen cases where infraction abusers were banned, at least temporarily. A pointless or retaliatory infraction once in a while is better ignored, but if it happens continually, report it either to the Help Desk or perhaps by reporting the person's post in a thread where the infraction was given.
