$65 Million Marketing Train Wreck

Skechers just agreed to pay the FTC $40M for false claims about "toning" shoes - on top of $25M already paid.

You probably saw the dorky ads with claims the shoes would perform miracles like weight loss and improving cardiovascular health.

Hard to believe that marketing made it past the legal department because this was an obvious legal problem the first time I saw the ads.

Although this isn't necessary "off topic" although I'm posting it here, it just goes to show you cannot copy off the big boys assuming they know what they are doing. They don't.

Wasn't that pretty similar to what "earth shoes" were all about when they came out in the late 60's/early 70's?

I'll bet all of those people who bought the toning shoes aren't happy they walked all over the place looking like dorks for no good reason, lol!

Dorks is the perfect name. I couldn't believe that people really thought that "special" shoes would tone their butts. Um...hello it's the walking.

But people will believe and do almost anything if they think it'll get them fast results without the work.

However I must admit I was slightly disappointed that there were no actual faces on the bottoms of my Reebok RealFlexes. Misleading commercials. Perhaps I should call the FTC about this

I got two pair of Reebok Superautotone-a-matics. A black pair and a white pair. Most comfortable sneakers I have ever owned. I am sad that they are discontinued,as mine are about worn out.
And Yes, my butt looks better for it

Train wreck? Or crazy like a fox, perhaps? My guess is it was a calculated risk of fines vs. profits and even after the 65 million to the FTC, I am willing to bet they came out ahead.

    Just a guess.

I'll sell you dehydrated water, it's as easy as:
    1. Purchase my patented container containing Dehydrated Water
    2. Just add water
    3. Enjoy!

What are the benefits of this? Well it sure is a heck of a lot easier to transfer than hydrated water.

That first one is deformation all the way! It's totally gross and I certainly wouldn't be bragging if my body looked like that, eww!

And with the second one, at first I thought the subject was facing me and their belly was so fat that their knees were forced far apart. But then, I noticed that the feet were facing the other way and that must be a really big bootie!

Just nasty on both counts, 3M. LOL!

I saw the ones with the highly curved bottoms in one of the local stores and just thought the concept was crazy. That kind of shoe just isn't my style or my price range.

Too bad the government didn't go after crazy claims a long time ago. I remember the TV infomercials that claimed you could make a whipped topping out of skim milk using their latest whacked power gadget.

One of the grocery store chains in the area is carrying some of the as seen on tv gadgets and once you see the items up close, they look rather disappointing for the price.

I never heard of those shoes. I guess when you seldom watch TV you miss out on a lot chances to be duped into foolish notions.
