At Cannes, Jackie Chan has announced his retirement as an action star, saying he is too old for stunts and the world is "too violent".

He had a good run, and he can always choreograph...

But please Jackie...no more "Rush Hour" - OK? :p

I hope he at least does some other types of movies. Jackie is hilarious. Put him with Owen Wilson in ANY kind of comedy and I'll watch them. They are one of my favorite teams.

Jackie Chan is a good guy. He's super-talented yet genuinely humble. On film sets, after performing death defying stunts, he's been known to help the crew move and pack up stuff.

Jackie is one of my very favorite actors. I think he's a unique talent...Stunts, martial arts, and he's probably the best actor of the action stars.

I bet his body hurts from all the stuff he's taken over the years. I'll miss him, but I understand why he needs to rest.

I posted this video before, but it's worth reposting:

  • I remember Jackie talking one time about the difference between doing stunts in Hong Kong movies - and doing Hollywood...

In Hollywood, when you jump off a building, you land on a nice big fluffy pillow...
I Hong Kong, when you jump off a building, you land on a big pile of cardboard boxes

  • Jackie Chan announces that he will continue making action movies!
    submitted 9 hours ago*

"Hello All my friends and fans,
Yesterday in my press conference in Cannes for Chinese 12 Zodiac I said that this movie was my last big action movie.
Today I was shocked when I woke up to read all the news coverage that I was retiring from doing Action movies.
I just want to let everyone know that I am not retiring from doing action movies. What I meant to say is that I need to do less of the life risking stunts on my movies. After all these years of doing so many stunts and breaking so many bones, I need to take better care of my body so I can keep working.
I will continue to do international action movies.
And I will keep improving my English :-)
    I love all of you!"
    Jackie

I have seen perhaps over a dozen movies that he was in. ALL were remarkable! The TAMEST might have been the tuxedo. Jackie played the driver of a guy that he thought was some amazing suave ladies man. The guy ended up missing, and Jackie ended up impersonating the guy. The tuxedo was some kind of exoskeleton robotic assistant to do various things, which included fighting. And IT was something.

I'm glad to see that he will still be working, but will take it easier. He is in the US, and probably rich. He could probably cut back SEVERELY on the risk without ANYONE noticing.

Although it's unlikely he'll ever get any Oscars, he's one of the few actors who is guaranteed to pull in audiences around the world.

    A true living legend.

What I have always admired about Jackie Chan, is his ability to incorporate comedy into his martial arts in a Chaplinesque way. Though I don't think I've ever heard him say it directly - he is obviously a huge fan of the Silent Era Masters, unless somehow, they all had innately discovered the same deep wellspring of delightful physical comedy from opposite sides of the Earth

I'd say his stunts are more Buster Keaton than Chaplin, but yeah, you're right, there's a strong element of comedy in them.
