In this comparison, Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster looks worse than that of Japan's Fukushima nuclear. However, Fukushima looks really bad, 300,000 people evacuated vs 115,000 from areas surround Chernobyl.

Maximum radiation detected at Fukushima has been huge, more than a third of that of Chernobyl.

Maximum level of radiation detected
Fukushima 72,900 mSv
Chernobyl: 200,000 mSv
(What does this mean? Heck if I know)

In recent news, there are concerns about a new "bulge" in Unit 4, the most dangerous and damaged building of Fukushima nuclear complex:

From news tabloid New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/27/wo...n-japan.html):
"Fourteen months after the accident, a pool brimming with used fuel rods and filled with vast quantities of radioactive cesium still sits on the top floor of a heavily damaged reactor building, covered only with plastic."

With Japan's large population and Japanese authority's fear of public panic, information on Fukushima only arrives in forced-out leaks, so who knows what really is going on there, suffice to say radiation from Fukushima has been detected in Tuna off the coast of California:

Super scary especially if you are a tuna living in S.California.

(not funny but hysteria works strange magic)

They have also found it in soil samples in California.

I have lost a lot of respect for Japan. I was just sure they would have been responsible and planned for all contingencies. Apparently not.

Stupid ass reasoning in the first place to have a nuclear reactor in a country that has been earthquake-prone - and duh didn't they figure on tsunamis, either?

I guess there is no 'bullet-proof' and no place that is 100% safe - and I am a little surprised whoever was responsible has not jumped out of a window in shame.

(I'm glad, but at the same time we don't know what the ramifications of this will be for years and years to come and sweeping things under the 'carpet' is definitely just adding insult to injury) -

Yeah get your priorities straight Mr. Yo - Fess up and take appropriate action.
