If yes, what was the best experience you had with them?

If no, what was the funniest thing a Psychic have ever predicted about you? :p

Back in 1996 a psychic predicted I would reply to someone named Shounak whom I wouldn't know. Yeah, like that would ever come true.

Sorry, no, they are fake. I have no experiences to relate because I've never gone to one and won't be going. Instead of paying them for telling me nonsense, it's better to buy myself something wanted with the money instead.

The Magic 8 Ball says: "MAYBE" .

Actually ,like Dennis a few years back I predicted someone named AprilCT would make the following statement:

"Sorry, no, they are fake. I have no experiences to relate because I've never gone to one and won't be going. Instead of paying them for telling me nonsense, it's better to buy myself something wanted with the money instead."

I'm still waiting for that prediction to come true.......hey,wait just a cotton pickin minute!

I believe that that some people who claim themselves to be psychics and really believe it exist.

My gut reaction is to think psychics are bogus, but to seriously address the question, everything we perceive light and sound which are waves. The human mind recognizes patterns. Radios, TV's, and computers pick up waves as well. If real psychics exist, perhaps their minds are better at picking up and interpreting wave patterns. My great grandmother was a supposed psychic of sorts and influence very powerful people:

I actually think psychic phenomena is possible, but I also think 99.9% of those claiming to have psychic powers are phonies.

There is some solid psychology behind fake psychics. Google the Forer Effect or Barnum Statements, Rainbow Ruse, or cold reading.

I think Dixon was a fake. There's evidence her one big prediction, the Kennedy assassination, was made after the event and predated.

Edgar Cayce, however, is well documented. Seems legitimate to me.

Note: In the interest of clarity, I assume you meant the well-known American psychic, Edgar Cayce, and aren't talking about someone else who is really named Edgar Casey.

Van Praagh was on Coast to Coast the other night and was challenged by a caller to do a reading about a specific topic so he'd know Van Praagh wasn't a fake. Van Praagh wouldn't do it, but what surprised me was the panic in his voice as he tried to escape the challange. His voice cracked like a boy heading into puberty and he let out an obvious nervous laugh.

I think he's a fake, but ... the messages and advice he gives are pretty solid and the hope he gives to people he "reads" is obvious. He probably does as much or more good as many psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and mental health therapists.

Hmmmmm, l believe or know that it is possible, l had a reading a while ago, and she said that l would meet someone with red hair!

It did happen, but unfortunately she was taken!

And l know from personal experience that it works, but you have got to find someone genuine!

I got burned today, after going to new age festival and getting a reading done.

She basically said after getting my name, email date of birth and phone number, (warning bells should have been going off at that point, but l was tired) and basically said that the next year, my life would be a charmic lesson?

Or unless l turned my thinking around, it wouldn't be fun, than told me about the fact she could help me clear my negative energy, for a fee of course, by looking into some course she was running.

Then later on, after feeling like crap, l read in a newspaper that a 12 year cycle has ended and the best week l can imagine should occur this week, (yeah l know what you are thinking, but this newspaper, hasn't said something like this, and tends to be spot on more often than not).

I tend to believe the newspaper, as some software l am working on, has a good chance of turning my life around for good, probably this week!

So, if you are living in a country that is getting squeezed in some way, which l think everyone is at the moment, the person giving you the reading may just be making things up to boost their business profits!

Best to only go with someone who, is referred by a friend, etc.

But eventhough l got burned, l know from my own experience that genuine Physics exist.

P.S. l also found out today, that the vast majority of people that usually work, etc at the world trade centre when it got hit, didn't go near the place, because their gut or intuition, told them something bad was going to happen!

Shane, from what you've written I sense you are a very approachable person and a nice guy, although you sometimes find certain people irritating. I sense that you are occasionally insecure, or maybe reserved is a better word, especially with people you don't know very well. However, in the right situation I believe you can easily become the "life of the party" (so to speak), at least while the signs are pointing your way. You have gone through some struggles but have come out on the other side a stronger and better person.

I wrote a long response to about 10 posts in this thread and my PC randomly rebooted....
I think The spirits were trying to tell me something.

Bottom line, great forer reading Dennis.

Shounak Gupte, I have probably 30 decks of Tarot cards, which type do you like to use for your reading?

I take anything Michael Shermer say witha grain of salt, his claim to fame is working with James Randi, who himself is a wannabe magician that didn't make it so he started exposing magicians that were better than him. Ironically he was recently exposed for living with an illegal alien for the last 18 years that had stolen someones identity.

    Back to you Dennis;
"I think he's a fake, but ... the messages and advice he gives are pretty solid and the hope he gives to people he "reads" is obvious. He probably does as much or more good as many psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and mental health therapists."

I don't know how much he charges, but that right there is the important thing.

I also have met many over the years that do it for very little fees, because they truly believe in what they do. The most common term for these readers are "shut eyes" as they sit there with their eyes closed and give out their reading.

Just as in anything, there are good people and their are bad people.
The majority I have known fall in the category as goo,as they rarely if ever give out any negative thoughts and will always refer any legal and/or health questions to people in those professions.

    Ok, rant over.

      .
James Randi never exposed "magicians" that weren't trying to con people into thinking they were psychic.

And his personal life has nothing to do with it, other than using a ad hominem attack. You know Kim, Randi was more successful as a magician than you. Does that discredit what you have to say on the matter?

Again, I'm glad Randi exposes frauds like Uri Geller and "psychic healers" who don't claim to be illusionists, but rather that they have "psychic" powers. I find many of these people to be dangerous to folks that are gullible, desperate and/or in need.

Yeah, spot on Dennis, when l was walking back from this, someone approached me and said that she was homeless and needed money!

I found that hard to believe, since she was wearing an expensive jumper and silk scarf, hair done, etc, it may have been true, but it was more likely she couldn't afford the shrimp cocktail, outside the expensive restaurant, and wanted a handout!

One con per day is my limit!

But back to the reading, she was talking on her iphone before the reading talking about doing something about the reading, but anyway water under the bridge now.

And about predicting Tatts results, l tried that and would have predicted all 6, but l picked the wrong side, (you usually have to pick 3 numbers around the winning number to predict it) or if you believe that you are predicting the winning numbers if won't work.

You literally have to trick yourself into believing that you won't win in order to pick them, if that makes sense.

I also tried it later on picking 4 numbers with random numbers and predicted the four correctly, but apart from getting my money back, that was it!

So, it is possible, but easier said than done!

      Shane.

I just made that up. I didn't sense anything. Sorry.

See, that's a combination of Barnum Statements (also called Forer Statements) and Rainbow Ruses. They're written or spoken in such a way that they seem personal to the person they are directed at, but the truth is, they apply to almost everyone.

That's just one of the ways the fake psychics seem real. There are others. Combine that with the fact that most people who seek them out want to believe, and you have a convincing act.

By the way, I originally looked into this stuff to help me understand copywriting better. These same kind of tactics are used in that field too.

Yeah Kim, I saw it. I was coming to that next. A Rainbow Ruse is like playing both sides of an emotion. I might say something about how generous you are in one breath, and in the next breath mention you can sometimes be stingy. Most people will identify with both parts of the statement, but if not, they'll remember the part they did associate with the most. Like Forer Statements, they are so general they apply to almost everyone.

About your other post, I have no idea what he charges either. I thought it might be fun to go to a psychic once just to stonewall them and see what they came up with. I checked on the price and one was $250 for an hour and the other was something like $400. I wasn't willing to pay that much.

I agree, there are good and ... not so good ... people in any field. As long as Van Praagh is doing more good than bad I don't have a big problem with him being a fake. And, of course, him being a fake is only my opinion.

I will say this ... about 30 years ago I used to work the night shift at an airport as security. I was listening to Coast to Coast on the radio when they had a psychic on. I don't remember who, but I thought I'd call in and see what he said since it was free. Somehow I was one of the lucky ones who got through. The first thing out of his mouth was something about me working in security. I was very surprised! Nothing else from the call stood out though.

Actually Kurt you are completely wrong on this except that he was more successful as a magician than I was,but then,I never tried to make it a profession. It's been a hobby for 45 years though, and I am definitely more knowledgeable on magic and Randi than you are.

You have previously announced how much you like him,and you are entitled to that, but the fact is he attempted to be a magician by trying to do escapes, and never had a successful career at it.He never was successful at all until he started exposing other, and saying he never exposed,to quote you""magicians" that weren't trying to con people into thinking they were psychic. " is just not true at all.
After the dust about Uri Geller settled down, Randi had nothing to do so he just started going after any and everyone. He even has whats know as a koe now his "Million Dollar Challenge",but the fact is that he has changed it from having a million dollars to offering a million dollars worth of notes. But even with that he also continually changes the rules.
Randi can be your hero all you want, but he HAS gone after people that have never tried to cone others.

As far as his private life, harbaouring an illegal fugitive that has stolen someones identity is EVERYONES business, that's not anything you can say,"oh,that's his private life".

You can try to discredit what I say but the fact is I can back all my statements up with facts, because many many many magicians have documented Randi's lies over the past four decades.

I will agree that people like Peter Popoff need exposing, but there are many many magicians that are exposing the crooks,Randi is by know means a lone crusader.

You think harbouring a illegal alien that has committed identity theft is ok,well I guess you can think that all you want.Myself, and a lot of other people call that being a known accessory to a crime.

I'll close repeating what I said earlier. There are plenty of real crooks out there that need exposing, and I am all for that. But to say Randi has never exposed anyone that wasn't trying to con people is just not true.

Note: Interesting that the clip you post of Randi exposing Geller is probably close to 40 years old.

    Dennis,
Now that you explained the rainbow ruse I have heard of that process, but can't remember what term I have heard it by.

There are people locally that charge about $20 for readings, but they are marketers too, they always have an upsell. a birthstone,a piece of crystal,a lucky token, etc etc. These can come from both the crooked ones and the ones that feel they are genuinely psychic.

We had someone that used to be a regular here a few years back that was knowledgeable and he and I used to talk, don't know if anyone remembers lawrh, but he could talk about this too.

Most of the ones that truly believe they have powers ,as I said before, are not trying to con anyone but trying to actually help people solve their problems and live a better life.

I;m surprised no one mentioned Sylvia Brown yet or John Edwards

Those are currently two of the most well known. I'v heard Montel Willimas has Sylvia Brown on quite often,John Edwards had a tv show for a few years but I guess people finally got tired of him.

Anyway, I enjoy discussions about things like this. One doesn't have to believe or disbelieve to have an interest in something.
My interests in magic changed in the last 10-20 years from doing slight of hand to the studies of intellectually unknown.
It pays to have an open mind and heart.
So even though its politically incorrect, Let me just say Bless you all.

I strongly think Browne is a fake, and I lean that way for Edwards, too.

Discussions about the topic are fun. It does pay to have an open heart and mind, but it also pays to be able to filter out the true from the false.

        Absolutely,positively true.
As far as Browne, I think she is definitely a fake that should be exposed, wonder where Randi is with her? After all,I've heard she is on The Montel Williams show quite often.

I think Edwards is the perfect example of what you best described what fakes do,throw out so much crap till something sticks with someone. That person will forget the 99 things he said before and remember the 1 hit he got right and proclaim him as real.

Agree completely with you. Browne has been exposed before, at least by some of the people she's hurt. But she's like energizer bunny, she just keeps going. She has some devoted believers who apparently ignore any damning evidence against her.

      • A father is getting his daughter ready for bed...
during her bedtime prayer she said, "bless Mommy, bless Daddy, goodbye Grandpa." The father found that to be a little weird, but the following day the little girl's grandfather passed away.
The next night at bedtime her prayer was was similar, "bless Mommy, bless Daddy, goodbye Grandma." Sure enough the following day, the little girl's grandma passed away.
The following night at bedtime the daughter gave the most terrifying prayer yet, "bless Mommy, bless my brother, goodbye Daddy."
That night the father did not get one bit of sleep, and the following day he made every effort possible to be as careful as he could - Thankfully he made it through the day just fine...
Arriving home he started to tell his wife what a terrible day he had, when she interrupted him with, "Oh, you think you've had a horrible day? The milkman dropped dead on the front porch this morning!"

I look at it this way. Animals know when bad things are going to happen before people, our senses have been dulled. Maybe there is something to it?
I got into promoting them, it's a huge business, a lot of money.
I had my first reading recently, did it with a women I'm dating. It was really interesting and not that different from seeing a therapist.
The TV Show "Medium" Allison DuBois told when asked about suicide said " I know that people that commit suicide don’t go to hell. I have talked to people who have committed suicide and are on the other side with their family and friends, and they’re fine.."

Anyways, this forum is about making money and I make good money promoting Psychics, all on web cam so you can watch the reading.

No, they are all just guessing. Being a psychic is a skill set though, you have to be smart and know exactly what you are doing. It is no different that people like Criss Angel - He isn't a fake and he isn't lying, but the things he does are simply illusions. It might look like he is actually doing something, but he might not be doing it at all.

Ah...the old "faith is something you believe in, when common sense tells you not to..." argument.

I guess the age old question is what everyone wants to ask a psychic is, if they can predict the future...why are they not all fabulously wealthy - or preventing massive crisis from occurring?

Is it a "sixth sense", or a developed intuition of something humans have socked away in the primordial senses?

Is it selective prediction, divine intervention...or Wheel-of-Fortune?

Or are they prevented from messing with a time/space continuum?

My understanding about Psyhics is that they don't tell the future, they read your energy. They can predict the future, anyone can do that.
