Cars Really Affect The Atmosphere

Getting my two-year-old son to ride in the stroller was a losing proposition. He refused to go in the stroller to the extent that it meant carrying him around a lot when he wasn't willing to walk.

Seeing how much cars and trains fascinated him, I got him a little red car that we can push. A cheap $50 plastic thing, really (yeah yeah, I am not a fan of plastic either), but it's been a resounding success.

He loves going places in his little car, holding the steering wheel honking the horn. It's actually gotten quite a reaction from strangers too. Construction workers were praising his car as we passed by them.

However, no wonder they say cars change the atmosphere. Cars can really affect the environment. Today, at the library there was a little dance event for tots 0-3-years-old in the meeting room. As soon as I wheeled him in and parked his little red plastic car among the expensive baby strollers, and my son joined other wee ones to boogie, 2-year-old girls rushed in to his car to play with it.

One of the toddlers stood on it while another one pushed it and a few others walked beside it like it was a parade. Of course my son noticed and joined in the fun, a little smile on his face. It pretty much changed the atmosphere of the place, so much so that parents (mostly mothers) got annoyed, and one even suggested we take the car elsewhere because it was too distracting from the purpose of the event. We had no choice but to leave, since these days where his car goes, my son goes.

So you and your son brought something to the event that gave the kids some joy, and that annoyed the mothers.
Good for you (and your son).

You do realize that he won't be satisfied driving some crappy car now when he gets older, don't you?

You took it INTO the library? Inside? Honking "horn as well" Where all the other kids could see it? ........and you expected them to ignore it?

I can see it from their point of view man. It must have distracted the kids when they were supposed to be doing other thing... Couldn't you have left it out of the way or outside or even not have took it to the library? Just a thought.

All the strollers were within the meeting room, so that's where I took his car. If I'd known that the kids would react that way to it, I would have placed it near the security guard's desk in the other room. I did explain why we're using his little car to take him places, but here goes again..He hates strollers but loves moving around in his little car.

So the kid already knows how to impress the chicks? Hmmm. Enjoy him while he's young and cute - he's gonna be a hard one to handle when he hits his teens.

@andrewhowell: I'm sure Thunderbird will tell his toddler this as soon as he is old enough to drive a car.

Or he will buy him one of these:

If it was such a success, perhaps you should consider setting up a niche website, and resell these :-)

Maybe put a shortened web url on the side of his car, lol. He's pretty much the one selling it it. A few mothers and one father already announced to me that they're buying one. It is kind of funny. The wee ones love it. Maybe strollers designed to resemble cool little cars (or trucks or trains) would get more stroller-resistant kids to willingly ride in them.

Yea, that's probably not going to change that much in the next 55 to 65 years.

That's a great gift you gave your son. It will be difficult when he's gotten a little bigger and can't ride in it any more.

My kids loved their wheels too. Sometimes even a bit too much, the younger son drove one of those little cars (no handle for stroller attached) right down a flight of steps at a friend's house. The bright idea didn't work out so well...

My day job is only 11 rural miles from home, and varying hours... no public transport available. Fortunately I'm able to cycle on sunny days, so that's good.

My Wife is 10 miles from work (in our local city). She often struggles to park at work, and public transport from park & ride is poor at best.

There is but one "9 to 5" bus a day through our village.
