Hi Warriors,

I trust all is well with you and your family.

I just received an email from my Boss and I was surprised on what I have read. I am not sure if this was an instruction or a favor. He's also a Canadian.

Let me share his message:
--------
I'm looking to hire a Filipino or two for my oil field business. Could you please look again for a community around Edmonton Alberta Canada that I can post a notice with?
--------

I am not sure also why he prefers a Filipino.

I was wondering if you could help me on this.

Thank you so much, for at least reading my thread.

Sincerely,
Louie Tugas

    I'm Canadian, but I find it vague myself, so I don't think it is a Canadian thing, lol. I would just ask him for more details. Right now, my guess is that he just wants you to find places where he can place his job notice, maybe online maybe actual physical locations. Again, I would suggest that you ask him to please be more specific, eg ask him to please elaborate what he wants and what he needs you to know.

    Hello, Louie:

    Canada is heading into another period of severe employee shortages and the government is launching new initiatives to attract people from other countries to come here to work. (I think I heard that we are going to need something like a million or more people!)

    Over the past several decades, workers from the Filipino community have developed an awesome reputation as capable, dependable and enthusiastic employees. I suspect your boss has heard this and wants to tap into this great resource.

      Interesting. That would make the Canadian's request more coherent. Filipinos certainly have a stellar reputation for the quality of their work and, from what I've seen, it is well-deserved.

      I hope our Government will do something more about this to help my fellow Filipinos be able to work in Canada.

      This could surely help our economy.

      Thanks for the info, pal.

    Kijiji is quite popular in Canada, moreso in some locations than Craigslist.

    Kijiji Alberta: Free classifieds for Jobs, Resume, Cars, Housing, Apartments, Furniture, Personals, Services, Events, Appliances and more.

    Go to that location. On the right hand side you will see the 'My Location' box.

    Click the little orange arrow on the side of the box.Then click 'Alberta' in the list that appears and see the secondary list of communities within Alberta shows up. Select the community where you want to post an ad.

    Note: Be sure to scroll down and click the little 'Go' button after you select a different location. It's very easy to overlook.

    If you choose to post an ad in more than one location, make sure each ad is worded a little differently for each location, (title and description) or Kijiji will ban your ad for being a duplicate message in too many locations. Change titles and descriptions to match the areas you are posting in.

    You can see all the job ads currently posted in the general 'Alberta' section here:

    Alberta jobs, careers & employment - Free Alberta Classifieds at Kijiji

    Hope this helps!

    Just found some more information for you here: (This might be of interest to Americans looking for work in Canada, as well.)

    Alberta, Canada looking for skilled workers to immigrate to fill labour shortages

    A short excerpt from the article:

    The demand for labour in Alberta is expected to increase by more than 600,000 workers by 2021. It is estimated that if nothing is done there will be about 114,000 unfilled vacancies.

    The study also included several cities in Canada, the US, the UK, and Ireland that are most likely to have suitable candidates to help deal with the impending labour shortages. Some of the cities in the list are Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago, Dublin and London.

    If you wish to work in Alberta you can apply for a work visa under Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker Program which allows Canadian companies to hire foreign workers temporarily to help support economic growth. In order to apply you must meet the following requirements:

    * Have a job offer from a Canadian employer.
    * Have written confirmation from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) that the employer cannot find a local worker to fill the vacancy. Please note, in most cases, it is up to your employer to get that written confirmation and, also, in some cases, you do not need a labour market opinion.
    * Show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family while you are in Canada.

    The labour market opinion assesses how the offer of employment would likely affect Canadian jobs and Canada's labour market. When assessing a job offer, HRSDC considers the following:

    * the occupation that the foreign worker will be employed in;
    * the wages and working conditions offered;
    * the employer's advertisement and recruitment efforts;
    * the labour market benefits related to the entry of the foreign worker;
    * the consultations, if any, with the appropriate union; and
    * whether the entry of the foreign worker is likely to affect the settlement of a labour dispute.

    If you would like to apply for a Canadian visa WorkPermit.com can help. WorkPermit.com has been dealing with visa applications for over twenty years. We have an in-house immigration attorney and would be delighted to have an opportunity to help you with your visa application. Please feel free to contact us for further details.

    We have a couple here in Regina and this is where they go to send money home etc. If you posted the job offer there, word would spread quickly though the Phillipino community.
