Fur Fury: PETA Attacks Olsen Twins for $17K Fur Backpack: LAist

Last year, they sold out of a black-alligator version of the backpack launched in 2011 for a tidy $34,000.

Really ladies...(or Gentleman, for that matter) I don't want to go off on a socialism rant on what you can or should do with your 'hard-earned' money...but if you have 34k, or even 17k to spend on a freakin' handbag - you have way too much disposable income - (imo)

Of course, 34k on a classic car is a whole different matter entirely...:p

Peta is really just what called my attention to the story - I think what really incensed me more that a PETA involvement, what that someone would sell a freakin' backpack for 17 grand - or worse yet 34 grand :p - and they were selling out! The Fashion industry cracks me up sometimes...

Did anybody happen to catch this story on Karl Lagerfeld in Gawker last week?
This guy is like vying for the title of the world's biggest ----joke.

Karl Lagerfeld followed by butler holding a glass of Pepsi at Chanel bash - NYPOST.com

Karl Lagerfeld doesn't just have two personal maids tending to his Siamese cat, Choupette -- he also requires a butler to follow him around at parties with a goblet of Pepsi Max on a silver tray.

At Lagerfeld and Chanel's launch of his exhibition "The Little Black Jacket" at the Swiss Institute Wednesday, the ponytailed potentate was tailed by a staffer from catering company Olivier Cheng, whose sole task was holding a silver tray with one full glass of Pepsi Max in case The Kaiser found himself dehydrated.

The soda serf stood dutifully nearby a revolving ring of photographers and admirers around Lagerfeld, including Lily Collins, in case the design divo wanted a sip -- but he never touched the stuff. (When Collins got her picture with the white-haired icon, she exclaimed to a pal, "Oh my God, I think I'm going to faint!")
Lagerfeld apparently always has a Pepsi plebe by his side: Rapper Theophilus London, who appears in the exhibition, told us, "During the shoot [Karl] had a personal guy that holds his drink. He takes a sip, the guy walks away and comes back."

Lagerfeld's 9-month-old cat also made headlines this week when the designer revealed his fancy furball uses an iPad, eats at the dinner table with him and has two maids keeping a diary of the kitty's activities when he's not around.

"Every time we're on jobs, he gets pictures from his maids that send him updates about his cat," model Joan Smalls told us at the Chanel shindig. "He's like a proud parent where he wants everybody to see every picture, and I think it's so sweet and shows a sensitive side."

Also at the SoHo exhibition were Anna Wintour, Linda Evangelista, Karolina Kurkova, Penn Badgley and Zoe Kravitz, and Carine Roitfeld, who had director Fabien Constant trailing her for a new "mini-documentary."

To go along with your picture, today I saw a guy driving a Prius with a radar detector mounted to the dash. I thought that to be a bit of a paradox.

A Prius can still hit 100+mph. I'm sure most speeding tickets are issued for speeds under 100mph.

Yes, but you'd think a Prius owner wouldn't speed as it's not a fuel-efficient manner of driving.

Isn't a prius cheaper per mile?

Cheaper than what, Steve? Even a Prius relies on fuel. Typically speaking, the faster you drive, the worse the mileage. Thus, the paradox I mentioned. You'd think someone who drives a Prius is concerned about mileage, either for economic or environmental reasons.

We've reached the stage of, "If you have to explain a joke, it isn't funny."

What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it's the foxes, calves, and alligators—who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain—who pay the dearest price.
I didn't know alligators had fur.

That writer must not get out of the city much - I guess she wasn't the one who went to see Crocodile Dundee...

NOW I know why they are charging 17,000 dollars for a handbag!! Do you realise how hard it is to get fur off an Alligator??? :p It must be a very delicate tanning process...

Well, I think forbes(?) once listed them as the youngest BILLIONARES! As I recall, it was BILLIONares! And ALL because one of them didn't cry! I wonder if they ever knew which one! SERIOUSLY, THAT is why they are RICH today! One of them didn't cry!

You see, child labor laws in the US are VERY strict! And they have LIMITS as to when, and how long, a child can work. Because of that, things can get VERY expensive, so they prefer TWINS! They can get TWICE the work with NO added effort, and without breaking laws.

Well, a series in the US called "Full House" called for a baby. I believe it was the producer, but one of them said that one of the olsen babies didn't cry when he picked her up, and THAT got them the job! It was a HIT, and they starred in it for YEARS! One even eventually played a cousin of the other. Their manager set them up with a corporation at the getgo. Today, they have lots of other interests. That hand bag might have been part of a show or ad, or something else, and even a WRITEOFF.

I agree though. I met a young teenage girl on the internet, and she said she had a COACH purse! I NEVER heard of them before, but she said it cost about $2000 USD! For a young TEENAGER! As I recall, her father is an architect, and her mother is an interior designer. SHE is just a public school student!

BTW I mentioned that she was a teenage girl to set it up. She knows I am a middle aged man, and we were just sending messages back and forth about something unrelated. At THIS point, she is probably like 22.

I think the Olsens and Lagerfeld have much in common. They've reached a zenith of tackiness that most of us never attain...all three have a high ick factor.

You mght be right. The olsens had a REALLY good thing going. As babies, they had to do NOTHING! As young kids, they could virtually be themselves. As older kids, they had a HUGE market, probably inately knew a lot about it, being in the demographic themselves, and had PLENTY of grooming by their manger/partner. NOW, they are gettng into territory that isn't so simple, their manager knows very little about it, and they want to go it on their own. Miley cyrus had much the same path and SHE blew it.

I say blew it NOT because I know better. To tell you the truth, I was different enough that I wouldn't have gotten to that second part. The market is more defined and lucrative for girls anyway. But there are two huge paths to go down. I think the olsens at least WERE closer to the right path, but miley strayed too far to the wrong one and REALLY hurt how parents felt about her, so she probably made less money in her late teens than she would have if she hadn't gone there. She didn't help sales anywhere, but she hurt them. And that isn't just my opinion either.

Did you know that BINDY is doing this sort of stuff? I haven't seen enough to be sure where she is going, but it looks like SHE probably decided to take the better road. She's been doing little kid rap, fitness videos, and was apparently on nickelodean, etc... Of course, if she strayed down miley's path her family, and possibly AUSTRALIA would let her know it isn't right. But look at her mother, and what her father was like. I don't know if she'll make nearly the amount of extra money, but it looks like she is doing ok.

I saw one crass reporter talk about one of Bindi's raps talking about how she was afraid of grizzleys when they should be afraid of her. The reporter said "isn't that the kind of logic that killed her father". NOPE! He startled a stingray that didn't have the spike removed, and it killed him. GRANTED, people may avoid them, but most in Steve's business DON'T! He took a LOT of HUGE risks, and apparently had really NO harm! This was a rather minor one. I would have stayed away, but then again, most wildlife photographers, etc... WOULDN'T. It was a rather unfortunate event.

She's thinkng about going into politics. I wonder what she would be like.
