The US is being ravaged by a scourge of illegal aliens known as snakehead fish.

Invasive aliens originating from Asia and Africa, snakehead fish are highly aggressive, grow huge, are able to walk on land and breath with primitive lungs. Snakeheads have been known to kill small dogs, children, and even adults in water and on land.

"'It’s very difficult to catch on hook and line,' Brown said. 'The most effective means is with a bow and arrow.'

Brown cited a recent snakehead fishing tournament in the Potomac River as an example, where bow fishermen harvested more than 1,500 pounds of invasive fish."

VERY FUNNY! I mean the snakehead threat IS real, but things like:

Snakeheads have been known to kill small dogs, children, and even adults in water and on land.
From what I have heard, they eat vegetation, fish, maybe things like birds, frogs, snakes, LITTLE puppies, Children that are maybe 1yo or very unlucky and sleeping. Adults I guess they could kill if unlucky and sleeping. But EAT larger things, or even KILL large land mammals, that are larger than say a chiuaha, that are awake? To kill a person older than maybe 1YO, it would have to be practically an INVALID, and THEN, the fish would have to pig out, or get the juggler.

BTW even the ARTICLE didn't say it was killing ADULTS! Let's not go overboard. These fish prefer smaller things, and prefer it in the water. They can be good swimmers but not real good walkers.

Still, they are horrible in every respect and the potomac IS one place they invaded. In fact, I believe the US invasion STARTED there. Some CHINESE guy broke US LAW and imported them, they are supposed to be panacea, according to chinese medicine, and then let them go free in an outside lake or some such he had, after his wife got better. The fish decided it wasn't good enough, and crawled to a larger place, and just kept going. It was a breeding pair, and they bred. They have virtually NO potential predators here, and had plenty of food.

The World's Most Evil Fish Invades Britain
      You heard wrong:

"The giant snakehead is a carnivorous fish that feasts on pretty much anything in its path, and has caused all manner of destruction in places where it has been introduced. With the recent discovery of the fish in Britain, officials are scrambling to find a possible solution to this dreaded environmental issue.

Maybe you think it’s overstating the problem a bit. After all it’s just a fish, right? Wrong. This is not your everyday fish. For one thing, the giant snakehead can kill you. Female snakeheads have been known to attack and sometimes actually kill human beings who get too close to juvenile fish.

The giant snakehead will eat absolutely everything in a body of water then crawl over land to the next pond or lake. If there’s an infestation near any other bodies of water, those other areas are almost sure to be infested soon because the snakehead can survive four days out of water while it looks for a new home.

So, unless they have poison, repeated attacks or going for the neck, (if a human was asleep) seems to be the only way this could kill a human, that is awake and standing????

I thought that a quick bop on the head would knock one of these fish out for good!

Well, I was talking about killing and feasting out. Even the smaller snakeheads, which are STILL large, will certainly attack if they figure you are a food source and they are hungry, or you are an immediate threat. The giant snakeheads are large, but still the idea of them pulling in even a 3 yo seems kind of hard to believe. I could MAYBE believe a 2yo or younger because they are weaker, smaller, and less able to fight against it. Oh well, I would NEVER have suggested swimming where snakefish are. Make a piranha about twice as large, omnivorous, and a bit slower and more solitary, and able to walk on land several days, and you have the snakehead.

BTW I think all the snakefish in the US might be the chinese ones.

'It will attack people,' the author of that description, zoologist Walter Courtenay of the US Geological Survey, in Gainesville, Florida, told me. 'And there have been reports of deaths, of children being dragged under.'

That's a freaky video, isn't it. That wasn't even a complete fish, but its decapitated head!

I'm convinced that it can eat, but even snakes don't "walk".

If that fish eats meat, it can be caught on a hook, on land or water.

I don't know anything about this, but I stopped by the great source of all knowledge, Wikipedia, and found a bit of info. that suggests I won't get eaten by one of these suckers anytime soon.

"Its introduction to Czechoslovakia by the government in the 1960s failed due to cold winters."
So it sounds like colder parts of Europe are safe (from snakehead, but not from stupid government officials). Good. That's all I needed to know.

    And...

In the Animal Planet TV series River Monsters, Jeremy Wade shows a dramatization of a snakehead, "the fish from hell", stalking an unsuspecting baby and Chihuahua. With the help of a snakehead researcher, however, Wade shows that although it is capable of living outside of water and is able move on land, its weak pectoral muscles make movement difficult and render the snakehead an unlikely "stalker" on land. (Emphasis added.)
But just as a hypothetical question, you could probably take o' them things out with an AK47, right? I mean...right?

Yikes. I'm afraid to swim in the ocean after my kid's research projects on sharks.

It's obvious these things need to be controlled.

Hey, if there's in Texas, maybe Perry can authorize a shoot from helicopters.
