I really don't know how much of this statement I can believe...
International oil companies operating in the Niger Delta, including Royal Dutch Shell and Chevron, claim to be losing more than a billion dollars a month in proceeds due to the informal oil industry.

They also claim that it is the illegal oil operations that are responsible for the oil spills.

A Nigerian gasoline tanker caught fire on Thursday, killing at least 95 people in Okobe, a town in the oil-rich Niger Delta.

A witness told Reuters that the tanker crashed on a road and then caught fire as people were trying to scoop up the spilled fuel. According to Nigerian television, most of the victims were rushing for "free fuel."
