Yeah, it's all about convenience. It's easier to serve them crap then to cook a good meal.

In our house, we do this once in a while. But we also stress physical activity. Moderation of this food and activity is the key to being healthier...

( i cant wait until he is old enough to do the weeding because i have a HUGE back yard )

He is only 3 ( in a few wks ) so only time will tell, if we have the fortitude
        to keep it up.

I hope we do, because i have never felt better, and im almost sure the reason why is the food.

It's true. I think there is a misconception that you can feed your kids junk and it won't harm them down the line, because most kids burn off the calories easily. But when my daughter turned 2 the pediatrician told us to switch from whole milk to skim because it would be better for her heart down the line.

We do indulge in junk sometimes. I want her to be able to manage the presence of cupcakes and McDonalds and know those are not "everyday foods". Fortunately she likes fruits and vegetables and likes Subway better than McDonalds.

The food industry is extremely powerful and frightening. For example, Monsanto is de facto organized crime. The gangsters who head the criminal industrial "food" cabals have a pernicious presence at every stage of our lives and work with their corrupt lackeys in government in suppressing information from consumers.

I'm known for eating pizzas and various other "junkfood", but there's still no way I can drink a can of Coke. I used to be able to drink can after can. Now it seems like it's just syrup that clings to my mouth and the caffiene just makes me feel uneasy.

I'd sooner wash down my food with a pint of milk.

Most people have never tasted a real can of Coke or any other type of soda.
Most is made with high frucose corn syrup which study after study has been shown to be unhealthy for humans.

I think it was the late 60s or early 70s when a sugar crisis initiated the move from sugar tyo the lower costing corn syrup and they have been using it since.

I've tried a Mexican Coke and Pepsi throwback and it wasn't really something that would convert me.

Knocking back that much sugar in a casual drink can't be healthy.

Neither is knocking back that much chemical sweeteners.

I've never had a Mexican coke or a Pepsi Throwback ( all the throwbacks got the idea from Dr Pepper marketing).

But I am convinced that putting a natural substance in my system is and always will be better than some chemical engineered item made solely for the purpose of making a pharma company more money.

I don't feed my kids lots of that stuff, they feed it to themselves! Well, my son does anyway.

He buys what he wants when he's out and about and it's always rubbish. I'm not going to follow him all over the place to try and stop him. All I can do is let him know the dangers of eating so much rubbish and hope something sinks in!

Not to mention about 90% of sugar beets now are GMO. I eat only sugar from cane and things like honey and real maple syrup, etc.

Soda quit tasting edible to me when they started on alternative sugars, too. I can tell the first bite of anything if it's not real sugar - and that mean anything boxed or processed. Cooking is a PITA as far as time goes, but being sick takes a lot more time (and money) than cooking a decent meal.

As far as kids eating McD's but not a home cooked hamburger................maybe if you loaded your own hamburgers with as many taste enhancing and addictive chemicals as McD's does, they'd like the home version, too.

I gave up sweetened drinks many years ago. Every once in a great while I enjoy an IBC cream soda, but otherwise it's MOSTLY water, coffee (milk, no sugar) and unsweetened iced tea.

My 8 year old loves McDonalds and pizza. We allow them now as a treat. He's not big on veggies, but we force the issue. Broccoli and green beans only though... and he loves fruit. But he ONLY drinks water. That's by his own choice. He hates soda, will drink lemonade from time to time and MAYBE some apple juice (rarely). We don't "force" the health thing down his throat because we don't want him to get worked up, but we do make him aware of what's healthy and what's not (and why it's not). He loves taking walks with my wife and I in the evening and now that summer is here he swims a LOT.

    Teach them young...

I posted this image on FB and not even 1 like or comment!
At some point you can find almost any kid eating chips or drinking a coke - but that picture isn't persuasive. Those kids are not obese and look healthy and it seems to be put together as a "gotcha".

I never focused on the individual ingredients - it was enough to avoid as much processed food as possible and not allow a diet overloaded with sugar or caffeine or anything that doesn't contribute to good health.

The trick for parents is simple - don't stock your house with things you don't want your kids to eat. If they want a snack and the only things available are fresh fruit, good cheese, milk, and cereal not dipped in sugar coatings ... that's what they'll eat. It's healthier for the parents, too.

If you keep the fridge and pantry loaded with chips and snack foods, candy and soda...why?

Let's face it - little kids can't get to McDonald's unless a parent takes them there;-)

It's what you fuel your body with that mainly determines your health, not just whether your fat or not, or smoke or don't.. If I posted fat kids instead, I'm sure parents would look at it and just say "well my kids aren't fat, so its ok"

In reality things won't improve until the TV box starts showing more commercials and propaganda to get the sheeple to change their eating habits. However with all the sponsor money from the junk food industry, I doubt they'll be willing until they are forced to.
It's still our own responsibility to eat right. But I get it. It's how I used to make my buying choices too. Not anymore.

But aside from WHAT you feed your kids, there's also the WHEN.

When my kids were younger, whenever THEY said they were hungry either my wife or my mother in law would give them a snack. So I commented on the amount of snacking they were doing, and then they simply swapped chips for grapes, thinking it was better.

I had to explain to them that if you fed them every time their tummy rumbled - even fruit, etc. - you're teaching them to stuff their faces at any sign of perceived hunger.

We're getting there... my son has learned that sometimes those hunger pangs are simply a cry for water and he grabs a cup...

            One step at a time.

I am agree, but there are many parents, not necessarily obese people, who are not spending enough time with there children and do not care what the kids are eating. This attitude is very dangerous and it can lead to several health issues
