Just curious...where did everybody go?

I'm always so glad to see Seasoned and TB and 3M, Kurt, Patrician, etc. and on rare occasion KimW when I come for a visit, but where did everybody else from the core group go?

Heysal, Thom, Dave Patterson, Dennis, GT, Wags, etc.

It's just not the same without you here.

Oh no! You're all having a huge month long bash and forgot to send me my invitation!

I've been wondering the same thing. Been slow 'round these parts the last couple weeks.

I think Thom is banned, but I have no idea why.

(I apparently didn't get the memo because I'm not part of the "core group"...)

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

      Say what??

I'm shattered! We shared the same birthday and everything!

Crap! Must have happened when I was out of commission due to those dang storms that caused my week long power outage.

      Suddenly, I'm a little depressed...

Thanks Paul! I knew Thom was not the type of man to go around doing or saying anything to get himself banned.

Yes, I suppose we are all just humans, or earthlings to be exact. Terran from root word Terra, Latin for earth = earthlings.

Haha! I wonder how everyone feels knowing that they're just like me.

Not everyone. I, for example, would never be seen in public in a pink cowboy hat. A dark brown Stetson "Gun Club" is about as close as I get.

Western Michigan is nice, though. My youngest brother went to school there. A lot of the women in Grand Rapids are really tall.

I know. My brother went to Calvin College, though, in Grand Rapids. Lots of Dutch women out that way, most my height (6') or close. I've just always had a weakness for tall women. I live in the wrong part of the country for that preference... [sigh]

Never know, Paul - now she's got her head around voice over she might decide to put some rhythm and rhyme to it. I'll go back and set that one to rest personally if it happens. Trust me on that one.

I think we're safe as long as she likes being known as "Terrar" instead of "Terrable".

I dunno, Terra. I'm sure that the WF would be glad to get up a fund raiser for me to take the trip back to shut something like that off.

Actually - a better idea. Start putting together text clips. When I get back we'll pop some asti and pass a few fatties and make one together. This place could use a little shakin' up, I'm thinking.

Since I'm a victim of having to listen to this c r a p (omg, am I my parents?), there's a party in the house, or in the house, in the house, in the house seems to be some of the most common phrases.

Maybe I should consider songwriting. Nah.

Kurt, because I did say I was always glad to see you, I thought you posted that video because I love Kermit and that it was a play on the the phrase "I'm so blue" because I mentioned I didn't get an invitation to a party.

I also thought on top of that, you were were comforting me and letting me know I was cool even without that invitation and to continue to be me. I got all of that from Kermit's song, heh, heh.

I thought it was perfectly brilliant!

I have seen Sal post in a few threads in here recently, so she is still around.
She seems to have become more active on FB too.

Thom, is in an exile for a while. Without saying too much, I'm pretty sure he didn't do anything wrong, and not to worry,he will be back.

Dave Patterson got cleared to go back to work recently.I don't know why he was off,but I remember him making a post about finally getting on the road again,so I am happy for him.

Dennis; again, has dons some recent sporadic posting,so I don't think he has gone anywhere, probably just actually involved in other things at the moment.

GT,not sure who you mean.I think I do,but not sure.

Steven W posted he was going to be concentrating on other things and not be here as much. I think he was going to try to get self taught on being a sound engineer or something like that? Don't quote me.

As far as myself, I'm checking every day but the time spent is much shorter.
Too many newb "whats your favorite(fill in the blank) threads. Too many new members trying to bring up post count and/or spam the forum. Too many threads that have been posted upstairs that should just be deleted end up getting moved down here. I've had some issues here at home. When the storms came though a couple weeks ago (remember when yuou saved your beef?) We had a tornado come through and had hail between the size of nickels to quarters and did a lot of damage to the house,so I had to deal with insurance adjusters.Plus the fact that even with smaller storms, we would lose power almost every day for a period of time.
Oh, there was another thing too. I've actually been making a bit of money by working with people with what is in my sig. (Not a plug, that is the truth).
There are a couple more things, but maybe save that for another time.

      Thanks Kim!

      I appreciate the detailed answer.

I was afraid that the reasons you stated regarding the OT was partly to blame.

I'm glad that you are getting things at home sorted out and that you weren't harmed in any way by those storms! Did you get to save the beef too?

I'm happy you are getting work with your sig!! To tell you the truth, I've looked at it quite often and it made me sorry for the first time that I never built a list.

I'm actually thinking about it and considering using the report/e-book I'm writing on freelance writing as an incentive for one as well as offering a guided imagery relaxation audio for the other. I'm still in the thinking stages though as I haven't quite figured out what exactly I'd do with a list other than talk to them as I'm not an affiliate of anything and most certainly don't want to resemble anything close to a spammer, lol! I'm sure I have a lot to learn in that respect.

While the offer is tempting, there are distinct advantages to being on the "out-and-out" so alas, I must decline your offer at this time. However, perhaps you should post this as a WSO???

It's a special offer available exclusively to the outer crowd around the in crowd of the out crowd. Can't let the proletariat of the broader forums catch wind of it.

      Dull? Ha, that's an understatement!

I think they added that Whacked Sorry Offer in here because OT humor is a bit too wild for the upstairs crowd, well, if you consider their offer humorous in the first place!

It's just not the same without you here.
A little birdie told me you were asking why I haven't been around much lately. It must have been a stool pigeon!

Sometimes I just need to take breaks from here. The negativity wears on me. Sometimes the vacuousness of the topics wear on me too. And it seems like some people just come here to argue, and seldom have a good word to say to anyone -- and that gets very old.

Then I consider that if people are wearing on me, maybe I'm wearing on them, too. So they get a break from me as well. I'm sure some folks would be happy to see me stay away for good. Might happen one of these days. Then again, I might hang around so long my avatar will show a toothless, bald, wrinkled old man who starts the same thread 17 times because I keep forgetting I started it.

These breaks may only last a few days, or they may last a few weeks or even a few months. All have happened before, it just depends on what I see when I venture back.

You're always a delight though, Terra. There are a lot of people here I'm quite fond of. Some know who they are, some probably don't.

By the way, don't worry about Thom. He'll be back. Don't assume the "banned" under his name means he did something wrong. It's not my place to say anything more, and hopefully he won't mind that I said that much.

Well, bless the little birdie! It's always a delight to read your posts too, and you have never worn on me or rubbed me the wrong way.

But I do understand what you're saying about the negativity and empty-headed topics posted at times. (Your word vacuousness is a little too intelligent for those that post them to understand, so I broke it down in simpler terms for them. ) And as Sal said, we do come here to relax and have friendly conversations interspersed with fun, not marketing methods.

Too bad we can't have a sticky that reads: DO NOT post marketing questions here!

It's supposed to be a place where we can just sit back and relax among friends, sharpen our wit, and hone our thinking off the cuff abilities and debating skills, all in good fun though. It is a complete downer when tempers flare and emotions aren't kept in check.

Anyway, an occasional empty-headed post from time to time is fun as we can toy with the poster in order to teach them the error of their ways. But when they take over, it's a complete bummer!

As for Thom, I'd never believe for a minute that he did anything wrong or bad as he's a good man! He personally helped me tremendously along with Sal during a very frightening time in my life. I eagerly await his return.

Too bad we can't revolt, overthrow the dunderheads and take our lounge back, haha!

Anyway, it was a pleasure to hear from you.

Yeah, Thom's an interesting guy - he had himself banned for thought crimes. Having the sense not to post what we want when an idiot shows up can wear down the nervous system after awhile and make us necessitate breaks. I've seen one too many chances to have myself awarded a good month off lately. Of course, I'm not as nice a person as Thom is, so might end up out for a year if I'm not careful. When you start typing the answers you really want to give to get them off your chest then deleting them so you don' t lose your account, it's time to go outside for awhile. LOL.

Terra - next time I'm at Dads, we have to get together. I found a recipe for creme bruhle cheesecake. It will make you forget everything Joe ever said about that chocolate slop he's trying to make you jealous of.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, some of the same "reasons" Thom requested a ban are the same "reasons" I haven't been around.

And yes, there is a reason why I put "reasons" in quotation marks.

Patricia, your post prompted me to start a new exclusive group. The heck with these "insiders" and their little inside jokes, Kermit references, and being all music-know-it-all-ly.

            My condolences.

But you did get a great RB. He has a chance to be the best Brown's RB since Leroy Kelly/Jim Brown.

They can't suck forever. I mean look, the Lions are accidentally starting to get things right .

@Kurt, I'm very interested to see how Peyton holds up. The team has a completely different outlook with him compared to Tebow.

Umm, it's sad when I don't pay attention to my own team, lol.

I mean, they've had some bad press about some new players this summer and I guess I gave up hope.

It's a cheap shot, I know...Nothing like kicking a fan while he's down. At least I didn't bring up The Drive (until now).

Peyton's neck should be OK. From what I understand, he's no more likely to have a neck injury now than any other player in the NFL.

Even though I really liked Tebow...Peyton Manning was my favorite player before becoming a Bronco, so I'm really excited.

People thought the Sox would suck forever (one more reason to enjoy my youth, I suffered through NONE of that outside of '03), they turned things around. Of course, then they spent 7 of the next 8 years trying to be the Yankees and f***ing everything up. Hm, maybe you have a point lol.

Yeah, I know that there are various breeds which have similar markings, so it's not so amazing, but it reminded me of some happy memories so I thought I'd make this post. Scoob was a cross-breed that I got from a dog's home as a pup and lived to be 15 human years old.

I only had to have a quick skim of my old photos to find one where he was adopting a similar cool pose -

                      Scooby Doo (RIP)

Edit - anyone know how to insert an attached image? I've attached it OK but then copied the warrior url and inserted the url via the 'image' icon. The image showed when I first posted, but now it's gone.

Is it to do with a fix applied to the forum to stop cookie-stuffing or something? If not, I'd love to know. For now I'll host it and add it to the post (which is why it's showing now).

You are being off topic in the OT?

Um........you might wanna try that pic again. I don't see one in the post.

I've seen several pooches that look like Ricky. None of them are the same breed as the next - mostly mutts, just as Ricky is. Rick definitely has either Rottie or Greater Swiss Mountain in him - most likely Rott because Greater Swiss are rare. What else is the mystery. But........

It doesn't matter to me. I'd like to know, of course, but most likely never will. He's one kewl little guy, though, and that's all that matters to me. I love the heck out of him. I also have no clue how old he is........he's old though. There's no two doubts about that. I wish he was younger so we would have more time together, but we've already bought him a few years he didn't have - and I can only hope for a few more. He's got a lot of personality.

I'm sorry Scooby is no longer around. One of the great injustices on this earth is that dogs have such short lifespans. We know they will be leaving us when we meet them, though - and all we can do is enjoy them while they are here. Dogs are patient. They wait for us on the other side without complaint.

I've been writing songs since I was a teenager. With that experience and the help of the Rhyme Zone, it took about two minutes to write that.

I've never tried writing rap before, but I wouldn't exactly say it was fun. Sort of, because I like to write, but not really because it's just throwaway words. It's more fun to write keepers.

I could see it as a SyFy movie, so I'll do what they do and write an entire script for it in the next five minutes .

Or we could go with an urban theme in "shorties" could be gangsta women. It would also fit in with the rapping soccer mom theme we seem to have going now.

Think Terra is spot on with the "quietness" and the way the replies are popping up in this thread, it seems the *RUBBISH* is getting the better of some of the old school

Problem with coming in a lot, is back in the day, you could actually have a decent, interesting and positive conversation about your day/week/life/plans, but now, by the time you get through the crap-o-la posts and bot remarks, you sort of feel... well... Drained!

Nice to see the old vet KimW, still kicking about with the our Time Share kidney still in doing it's magic!

Maybe Terra, you could start a little PMA thread to see who else pops up, that has gone walkabout

      Thank you DaddyKool!

I'm sorry that I've used up my thanks for a bit, if I hadn't, you'd surely have one!

It's very nice to meet you by the way.

I know, it is a crying shame that the undesirable nonsensical, self promotional, argumentative as well as the spamvertising posts are chasing away some of the best people I've had the pleasure and honor of learning from and making friends with.

It does get rather trying at times.

By PMA, do you mean Positive Mental Attitude? Starting a thread like PMA Challenged People Need Not Reply? :p

I do try to report as many of the posts that break the rules as I can, and I know that others do as well, but it seems as of late, there are just too many for us all to keep up with.

    Heysal,

Hopefully you see it now. The face seems virtually IDENTICAL! Same size, same white spots over the eyes, same black ridge over the nose, same nose, same pattern of white and black on the face. Perhaps the same tounge. Yeah, I know, VERY similar to many, but isn't it interesting how something SO complex can be so similar?

I can see it now. Scoobies face is narrower than Rickie's - other than that you are right, they could be brothers. This is a better picture of my guy - taken just a few weeks back, 2 years after the vet told my sister to put him down (cancer). This pic shows his true proportions better. You can see the rot in him. You can't see the rot in his personality, but after owning 3, I sure can.

    What breed mix was scoobie?

      Hi Sal,

Yeh, seeing that new pic I can see that Rickie is very different - much bigger for a start. But a gorgeous dog I might add.

There are quite a few breeds with these markings Steve.

      For example -

      Dobermann

      Scooby most resembled a -

Manchester terrier in terms of size and look (see the second pic down at the previous link - but his ears were different - when he was a pup, they were up, then they were half-up (and at one stage one was up and one was down - very amusing) and eventually they were down).

He was actually a cross from a Labrador mother and a Dachsund father! (Everyone laugh in unison, now! - Labs are big and Dachsunds are tiny...how on earth did they do the deed??!!)

The Dachsund dad is where he got the markings.

Unless I'm mistaken, the brown (not white, Steve!) markings above the eyes are there so that when the dog is asleep, some predators will see the two brown 'eyebrow' markings and think that they are eyes and that the dog is awake and staring back at them.

With my dog, he also had a brown patch around his rear end and when his tail was down, it split this in two (his tail was black) which therefore made his back end have two brown patches, which perhaps look like eyes to a predator with doggy-type vision.

Apologies for going off topic in the off topic and turning it into a dog pic thread!

There's a variety of dog breeds with similar markings other than Rotties or Greater Swiss Mountain...

    Doberman
    Black and tan coonhound
    Gordon setter
    Minature pinscher

...And probably a couple I'm forgetting at the moment.

That second pic shows that the only real similarities between Ricky and Scoobie is coloration. Ricky is built like a Rottie that didn't grow full size. He's only 60 pounds.

But who cares what they are really? They are kewl people and that is why we love them so.
