    Venture Capitalists/$$$.

Most tend to move there in order to try and make it big... A lot of them are now heading towards NYC. Silicon Valley isn't what it used to be!

I think one element of it (though maybe less so now than a few years ago?) is that when they get big, they need to employ a lot of staff, and that's quite a good area for employing suitably qualified/experienced staff?

There's a big and growing "silicon valley" or at least "silicon coastline" in Ecuador, these days, too - and some in other countries, also.

It is a nice area, there is lots of support, etc... But not EVERYONE moves there. HECK, microsoft isn't there. IBM isn't. Dec wasn't. Wang wasn't, as I recall. Motorola isn't, Texas instruments isn't. How about one that many said was THE FIRST? FAIRCHILD? NOPE!

Tandy isn't what *I* would call a technology company, but THEY aren't there EITHER!
