Brits Should be Proud

I've only watched the first hour of the Olympic opening ceremony (delayed showing here) - but it is charming and well worth watching.

From the Queen's interesting entrance to Mr. Bean - it's homey, stylish and fun so far. If the rest of the events go as well - it's going to be a lot of fun to see.

  • As I've said before, the Brits really know how to put on a show.

I recorded and then watched the whole opening thingy with the kid taking a break midway and fast forwarding through all the commercials.

Pretty impressive and of course there is no doubt the Brits are proud.

    According to the Brits...

They started the industrial revolution and the world wide web - two major innovations in world history.

The Olympics are a special affair. And the English still know how to make a grand entrance.
  • I knew Britain will make this work and they did really. The opening ceremony and the first two days were great and I believe the next 15 days to be so as well.
  • There was a girl who used to sell for me, and I thought she may grow a brain and think she was too good to work for us...and someone reminded me that the reason she did so well was because, coming from a factory back ground, working for us was her highest moment.

The Brits have had plenty of High moments though, however, of the ones I know, if their heads were any bigger, there would be no room left for any other countries in the world JK. Hadda do it Jimbo!

You never know when "we" may be the next ones parading around saying we were the great ones, and China is in control of everything.

As for me, I was just an internet marketer.

    • That's quite alright John

Funnily enough this is what I wrote on someones thread last week who was asking about the Opening Ceremony.

Well it happened and turned out okay so the second half of below came to pass. Some of the British Media have now decided it was the best opening ceremony EVER!

Okay, for the non British people on the WF let me just explain our Psyche to you all.

We all want it to be one big disaster. We are dying for it to all go wrong.

Because the whole point of British social life is to chat in a pub and say 'Well if you ask me I knew that was going to happen.'

If things are planned and do what is expected then there is a slight sense of loss.

However, there is then the paradox. When it is all finished, if it turns out good we will be saying 'well of course no one does these things as well as us.'

  • Thanks Kay I must say I rather liked the show too. Came out better than I expected did'nt want a cheesy one.
After all you Americans produced a great show in Atlanta.

    You're forgetting the weather Dan. We love talking about it ;-}

So much so, that for those of you who watched the countries line up closely at the end I think it was Latvia whose uniform wore very snazzy looking blue

Ps. Tim Berners Lee is British. Now Sir Tim.
  • It was a great opening, but where were the Spice Girls? Maybe they're all pregnant.
