How absolutely disgusting. But then again, the west has Toddlers and Tiaras.

You seem remarkably fixated on China -- what's up with that? Not enough problems in Australia? If China is guilty of intense training of athletes from a young age and using artificial chemical enhancements, they're guilty of the same crime widely documented to take place with athletes in the West as well. Some difference, sure, but variations of the same theme.

What is the blue stick she's holding in her hand? Doesn't look good

This is brutal. I think the blue stick is use to strike the kids if they did not obey or get the instruction correctly.

Ow my, this is really brutal, does their parents know about this. Now I know why Chinese athletes often get a gold in every Olympic season.

It's sad - but in any society where the populace (the PARENTS) allow this level of governmental control it's what you will find.

When the people of those countries decide to stop participating - change will happen. That may come for generations in the future. As long as the culture allows this behavior, what I think about it doesn't matter.

This is so sad, they're just kids. Their childhood in exchange of a potential gold medal in the Olympics.

I wouldn't want that for my toddler. To use a music analogy, I believe in a jazz lifestyle where improvisation skills are emphasized over classical lifestyle where strict military-drill-style routines and learning-by-rote are paramount. Life, surviving, and business are more like no-holds-barred MMA than gentleman's Marquess of Queensberry Rules pugilistic sport. It's not that I don't want my son to evolve and develop well, but I want his own initiative and creativity to be a major part of that. There are already too many miserable academic drones in society.

With China's massive gold medal harvest in the 2012 summer Olympics, their approach is producing strong results so I wouldn't deem to judge them, but I won't incorporating any hardcore "chi ku" (eat bitterness) approach to my life and certainly not imposing on my son's life.

Chinese movies have typically ended with someone who defied authority tragically howling over the corpse of a loved one. Now, increasingly, they end more like a Hollywood movie on a positive and hopeful note. While China, more and more, embraces American style ingenuity and positivism, the USA, more and more, embraces old-school Chinese-style hardcore authoritarianism, fear-mongering, and negativity.

If my statements here drift oddly and strange directions, it's because sleepy. Carry on.
