Sometimes, I thank God for these hindrances, so that I can have time to talk with my family, friends and neighbors. And look at the sunshine.....

Unplugging is hard to do...but when it's forced upon us....a welcomed repose

Funny and sad at the same time, this is really true for a lot of people these days.

Hi, This is pretty impossible that internet could be down
I live in big city and use internet provider from tv cable provider (althought I do not subcribe any tv channels). Last 4 years, it once happened for few hours, no internet access. However, we have got four huge wireless providers so, you still can add small modem in size of pendrive (USB), and get internet wireless :p.
However, I do swith off computer voluntary, to get to woods by bicycle, to read book or to go for few beers outdoor.

I'd take the time to do some reading. I think most people have that book they've been "meaning to get around to reading" so if the internet is down, it's a good chance to start!

      • "I am William The WiFi Wardriver -
And I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance of cable tyranny! You have come to fight for free internet! And free internet you will have! What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?”

"Two kilobits against ten Mb?” – (the newbie shouted). No! We will wait – for the Cable Guy!”)

"Yes!...Fight and you may be disconnected -Wait and you may get a little cable at least in awhile...for your paltry gaming...
But doing your Google searches many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men and tell the cable company...that they may take our lives...
but they will never take our INTERNET FREEDOM!”

3M - um.........you put a lot of thought into this one. Might not be a bad idea to just turn it off for a few - and for god's sake - take your meds.

Nah - just quickly popped to mind...take a movie speech, change a few words - and bingo - the cable companies are like Edward Longshanks :p (too obscure?)

But meds might not be a bad idea...

(Maybe I should have added info about cantennas? :rolleyes

Soitenly! A cantenna is a directional waveguide antenna for long-range Wi-Fi used to increase the range of (or discover) a wireless network, made out of an open ended metal can. The cylinder portion of the can may consist of metal-coated paperboard.
While cantennas are useful for extending a wireless local area network (WLAN), the tiny design makes them ideal for mobile applications such as wardriving. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardriving The design of the cantenna is so simple that it is often the first antenna Wi-Fi experimenters learn to build.
They can be very useful to find nearby available free Wi-Fi signals.

And Edward Longshanks was the badass King everybody hated in Braveheart

Well, what I SHOULD do is work out. But I definitely am guilty of F5ing refresh refresh. The internet controls us way more than it should.

When the Internet goes down, I dig out the Honey-Do list, review it, determine which item I should tackle first, get ready by having a cup of coffee and.... oh look! I'm back online!
