I had a genius friend in Ottawa (on the cutting edge of physics research) who was addicted to the learning channel. I'll wager that he is not genius now if he's been getting a lot of that kind of input.

When I first watched tv, about half of what I watched, believe it or not, were college level education channels(60s-70s). SERIOUSLY, you could register at a college, get the books, and follow along with the teacher. And THAT was one thing early proponents were giving as benefits and purpose! OK, the college programs all but VANISHED, and other programs got DUMBER! But they came up with special channels.

Among those channels were discovery(started out good), TLC(started out good, as I recall), and SCIFI. ALL are a shadow of their former selves. Take SCIFI, as an example. They started showing more MYTH stuff. THEN they started having WRESTLING on! WRESTLING!?!?!?!?!? THEN they started having more OCCULT stuff. One series of shows(I believe there are at least TWO series JUST LIKE THIS) is about some rotorooter(Plumbers specializing in cleaning roots from drainage systems) guys that, in their part time, masquerade as psuedo intellectual ghost hunters! I am NOT kidding! ONE is called TAPS! The Atlantic Paranormal Society THEN, they changed their name to SYFY! PROBABLY so they could claim their name is NOT about SCIence FIction!

BTW to those overseas, and those here that are too young, etc....

There USED to be something called "TV". It referred to the SERVICE. It was 100% free, and via the airwaves. It was HEAVILY regulated by the FCC.

ON TV actually meant over the airwaves, censored, FREE etc....
ON CABLE, when used, meant over the cable, at a charge, and possibly uncensored.

Eventually, there were a few companies that provided special service that was ENCRYPTED. They got special exemptions, and moved off to cable and took the regulations there. At this point, the FCC is virtually non existent there.

NOW, most of the aerial service is probably shut down. MOST, like me, use CABLE!

Anyway, a program like this, if it were on TV, would have been censored, and been on at times where FEW would see it. NOW, it can be visible as much as 24 hours a day.

  Don't bet on it! I predicted the increase in Moslem attacks before 1980 due to something that happened around that time that made us look like the keystone cops. THAT was what got me watching the news, and politics! BTW my prediction came true!

Were did they get the name Honey boo boo anyway? Interesting fact for foreigners... a "boo boo" is kind of slang for a little mistake, or a small injury.
