I just got a kitten a few days ago. It's already driven me crazy. It likes to attack my earrings while they're in my ears-ouch.

And she already ruined one pair of earrings.

And sometimes when I'm in a nice, good sleep in lala land she'll pounce on me. Bad move That's when I toss her out my room and close the door.

She's black n white, I named her Bonnie and she follows me everywhere.

Give her a week or two and she'll figure out your schedule and adapt to it. Kittens are fun!

Do I have pets? Oh yeah. Always have, always will.

Try having a Siberian Husky puppy who shreds everything in his path. He is a beautiful dog though. My son named him Professor R.J. Lupin from Harry Potter, because he looks so much like a wolf and we got him on a full moon.

Do you have other pets besides dogs Kay? And what breed of dogs? :p

If I lived on a farm or country area I'd have pet peacocks, turkeys, goats, sulcata tortoises, chickens, ducks, and I'd like to have pet raccoons and coyotes and mountain lions. And parrots and cockatoos.

I have an Australian Working Kelpie, black and tan, called Guinness. He's my running buddy, and he's training to compete in obedience. I also take him sheep herding and his instinct is amazing. My hubby has an Australian Cattle Dog, who runs with him.

I have two children, and they have a whippet each. Gorgeous dogs, and the most perfect breed for children.

Oh, I also have two mice who are left over from a unit study on mice the year before last. They're ancient now. I attribute their longevity to having never had babies!

I had a cocker spaniel named Gremlin that died in October, 2005. We had to put him to sleep because he was getting old and senile...but he was a great dog. I miss him dearly, but it's gotten easier over time.

Lately I've been thinking about getting a pet snake, just because they're obscure and seem to be really wise creatures (and I've never had a reptile). Is there a particular type of snake that you guys would recommend as being a good pet?

Ball Pythons are small 3-4 full grown and are fairly tame. They make good pets if you like snakes.

I have a 7 year old sulcata tortoise. I thought I'd be the only one with a tortoise but I see I am not. That's just weird.

She drives me crazy and keeps growing. She was a rescue and really doesn't belong in an apartment. I'll have to find a new home soon but for now she's mine.

Well I've had dogs my whole life.
After my Black & Tan Coonhound died in 94 I was so devastated I took 3 days off work. Then I was acquired by a mix breed named Peaches. She was the best trained dog I ever had (with no training) it was like she understood english. Only problem with her was she was a diabetic and I had to give her 2 insulin shots a day. She died in 05 and I figured I would get a cat as I dodn't like cats and figured I wouldn't get attached, wrong.
Now I have Orlando a gray and whote striped little guy who follows me arounfd the house and from what I hear cries constantly when I leave.
I'll get some pics up later. Oh yea my daughter has two cats also so we have 3 in the house.

I have a cat and love it very much...because it ran away and lives with someone else!

It doesn't wake me up in the middle of the night anymore, it no longer jumps up on my countertops when I'm not home and doesn't march its feet (the same ones that dug in the litter box!) all over where I make my lunch, and I can come home without meeting something that looks at me wondering who I am and why am I there.

And Irish Setters have to be the dumbest dogs on earth. I used to have one. It didn't come home one night, so I figure it forgot where it lived.

I like cats better than I like dogs and I really don't like cats all that much.

I know I'm a strange one LOL....got the first one to overcome my fear of spiders LOL....only to find out I am highly allergic to them, even by simple contact (massive hives, super itchiness)..but she's one of our babies and has already almost doubled the lifespan she was supposed to have. The other one was given to me by one of my little sisters ex's who had know idea how to care for it, so we fixed up the cage made it way nicer and Fireball joined the family.

Munchie is in my profile pics - best friends for life. Got him at 8 weeks - he threw up the whole 4 hour drive home. By the time he was 6 months old he loved the car....we go everywhere. He's 11 1/2 now - about a year and a half exceeded life span expectancy so he's not going to be with me too much longer. We are making the most of his golden years, though. He's still got some go in him and loves our days out. I've saved his butt a few times - he's covered my hide a few.

I seriously don't know how people live without a pet that they can be best friends with.

He is our 94 lb stress reliever, therapy for my wife who lost her 2 sisters 2 years ago (2 weeks apart), a great source of exercise as he loves walking and our condo complex is on a hill, and an unbelievably loving animal. Yep, we spoil him rotten

Alright you don't need to be in the country to have a zoo. I live in downtown Orlando FL and at 1 point I had: 11 leapard gecos, 2 chinese water drogons, 1 scorpion, 3 bunnies, 2 chickens, 3 ferrets, 2 cats, 1 Dog, 2 bearded dragons, 3 firebelly toads, 3 snakes, 1 parakeet, 3 turtles, a bunch of fish (and a partige in a pear tree). This is a result of having 2 sons one of whom thinks he's Steve Irwin Jr. and jumps on anything that moves. Fortunately for me now were down to 1 dog 1 cat 3 finches and 3 fish. For now.

    Valerie,
we had a similiar problem with a kitten we got a few years ago. The vet suggested getting another kitten so they could play together instead of doing the stealth attack at 3 am. Seemed to work, but of course now we have 2 cats tearing around the house, irritating the dog.

We have 2 cats, 1 dog, 17 fish - was 18 but Thomas the Tank engine - my youngest son named him - snacked on a beta we had waiting for a spot in the tank, and the blue bird house we put up in the back yard looks like it has a family moving in. The cats like to sit on the kitchen table and look at the bird feeders (don't worry, they're not afraid of the 30 lb dog, but going outside scared them to death) - we call it KittyTV.

We would have some turtles, but when I went looking for some found out they're illegal in NC - something about salmonella - go figure.

Turtles are illegal in NC That's crazy! What about the turtles roaming around by the creeks and in the woods? Do they get arrested for being illegal?

And some cats like to be the "queen of the house". I had a cat as a kid and tried to get a new cat a few times, but it would hiss and attack the poor new cat. Then a few days later the new cat would mysteriously disappear. I know my cat chased it away. It wanted to be the only cat in the house. Wonder why some cats can get along with others and some can't?

Gazing lovingly at me? Uh, okay...you were warned. Cats don't gaze lovingly unless they want something. They only look at you wondering why you are there and what they can do to get you to leave.

By the way, here's something really fun you can do with your new puddy tat! Lay your kitty cat on the linoleum-covered kitchen floor, place two fingers at it's neck and spin it around really fast about ten times and then let it go.

It's funny as hell when it gets up all dizzy and tries to walk!

And duct tape! Duct tape and cats, they were made for each other!

and give it something else to play with it will soon learn that if it wants cuddles it has to
        leave your ears alone.

Screw up a sheet of news paper into a ball and throw it for the kitten they love it as its light to pick up
makes a funny noise and its great for you because when it gets old you can throw it out and it wont cost anything to replace.

My kids have three pet frogs.

The two year old is constantly pulling them out and letting them go. Luckily they don't hop to far from the cage and we find them every time.

Were not so lucky with the crickets that we feed to the frogs, though.

Those dang things keep me up all night when he lets them go

oh God - what do I do folks? - just found this in a secret file on my computer under the folder "Thomas"....

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from shredding the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant and cough it up on the carpeting.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed (again).

DAY 762 - Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan...

DAY 768- I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo". What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth and the tiny bit of flesh under my claws.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer." More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies". Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time.

If you don't see another smart ass response from me soon, please remember me well....

Hi It is Nice to hear about your pet and love on it . You can try to keep the things which is Fragile and can break easily. Also you can bring habit on him/her by keeping him/her alone in a seperate room. That will help him/her to habituate with keeping things untouched and undamged. But I am really very unhappy as I have a nice Labrador name Arni getting badly injury by another Sheperd. But I am surprised how shepherd can attack and so violent on a kind Dog like mine.

It amuses me to hear people talking about owning cats.

I read something the other day about the UK having twice as many cat owners as there are cats!

You let the cat out and it goes to its other owner who also thinks it owns the cat.

I know this to be true as I once had a neighbour accuse me of "catnapping". When my wife and I went out, the faithless pet went to the other "owner". I knew it was my cat as I took it with me when I moved in but I had a nasty time with the neighbour who swore it was a stray she'd adopted and threatened to call the police. Fortunately my father arrived and convinced her I'd had the cat for years!

    It seems this is commonplace.

    Give me dogs anyday!

We now have two adopted Greyhounds and an African Grey parrot.

I grew up with dogs (mostly German Shepherds) and presently have two akitas and two rottweilers. They are my joy - over 500 pounds in total. They can look menacing to some but they are very affectionate and cuddly - sitting on my lap (ouch) and laying their heads on my leg.

When the rotties were puppies they chewed on everything in sight, however, they eventually grew out of that and have great dispositions today.

I have a fantastic white toy poodle. If someone would have asked me years ago if I would ever have "the stereotypical lap dog" my immediate answer would have been never in a million years. A dog to me then needed to be rough and tumble. However, I have to tell you, this little dog has won me over.

I work at home full time so she is always with me, which I know causes a whole new set of issues with separation anxiety, but my life is so much richer with her in it. There is nothing like it. When I have a trying or exceedingly frustrating moment she is right there ready to go for a walk or just play tug-a-war or fetch with one of her toys, or simply curl up by me for the obligatory pet.

See, I knew I would get all sappy here. Seriously, she helps me shrug off the trying times and futher enrich the good times. If you're on the fence about getting a dog, definitely do it, yet really give the responsibility of pet ownership a serious thinking over.

It is just their way of getting your feelings close to them. Arguing while playing is their favorite thing to do. Cats are better to take care of than dogs because they are neater and silent but useful.

Great plan. My wife and I got a puppy back in February from the Helen Woodward shelter in Rancho Santa Fe...sweet dog but wow what a handful! We have both 100% agreed we will not be getting another dog until we have kids old enough to help take care of it. Kids have the energy and time to keep up with pups.

That made me cry. Dogs are around for so many years and are tied to so many other memories. It looks like the kids grew up with him. They really do become part of the family. A great tribute. I'll have to send it to my friend in Alaska who has a ridgeback and will most likely cry too. We're both sappy dog lovers. *pat pat* sorry you lost him.

Thanks Margaret, yes the kids grew up with him, my youngest boy especially has a great love for animals and had a really close bond with him. We're the sort that have our dog with us 24/7 too, no dog shoved outside for us, he was inside 24 hours a day, which makes the house just seem so empty now he's gone.

I love cats! I have a 7 year old Persian, and then we recently adopted a 12-week-old kitten. With two boys (ages 3.5 and 2), we now have a full and busy household!

Thankfully my older kitty and new kitten became fast friends and love each other's company.

Now if we could keep our 3-year-old from tackling (hugging) the new kitten . . .

      Hey All!

Got 2 cocker spaniels, Jack and Jackson (we rescued Jackson from an animal shelter that's why his name is so close to Jack's) and five cats, Fauna, Ebba, Hennie, Peanut and my alpha male - Willie (tough guy!).

The cats are indoor/outdoor and basically maintenance free. My dogs are like and will always be like little children. They need care and watching over. Keep that in mind if you are thinking of getting a pet dog.

On the bright side, I don't have to save to send them to college .

Some of the jokes on this thread are pretty funny ... here's a good one ...
Did you hear about the chihuahua that killed the great dane?
Yep! Got cought in the dane's throat!

It doesn't hurt me to know that it's also dinner time for them as well.

As all love is, it's conditional and I understand that. Just happy for the reciprication!

I chose my kitten and we were going to leave when a second kitten ran up to my husband, put her paws on his boot, looked up at hi and started mewing. Needless to say we went home with 2. Then 2 years later some stray had a litter in our shed and we found homes for all but 1 so we kept the 1.

    Now we have 3
