British film director Tony Scott, known for such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun," "Days of Thunder," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "The Taking of Pelham 123," jumped to his death Sunday from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.

How come nobody remembers him for True Romance? That was by far his best flick.

  When I read this yesterday in the LA times, I figured he must have had something incurable like this...he and Ridley made a good team heading Scott Free. He will be missed.

  Too bad he couldn't go out in a blazing act of nobility like "Creasy" in "Man on Fire" - another great work for Tony Scott...(in reflection, Tony made quite a few movies with Denzel Washington)

  Sad to say the least. There's got to be a better option than jumping off a building, though. Barbiturates overdose, for example would have been a less traumatic (and possibly painful) last stance.

  Top Gun put him on the map, but "True Romance" (written by Tarantino) , and "Man on fire" are my two...most were fine, but a few were great - (he had good mentors) -

  I think he did - he left letters for family and a suicide note.
  
  I can fully understand why he'd make the choice. He quit living on his own terms and chose his own time.

It turns out that he didn't have cancer, though it was widely reported that he had inoperable brain cancer. Reason of suicide remains a baffling mystery to the general public:
