It doesn't have to be in a specific order, if you like.

Feel free to show who you like to hear? It's going to be fun seeing your 'list'.

I'll be sure to let you know who I'm listening to.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

People need to realise most of them are not from the hood and sell crack and shit haha. They were regular people picked by the music industry and given a character to play. They tell them what to wear, how to act and what to sing about. They are FAKES as well as negative role models.

They are trying to ruin society through these "artists" and not many people know that. Why would the gov allow people to sing about selling drugs, call girls bitches, sing about blowjobs, dress half naked (females) in front of children? It's done on purpose.

It's like how they supposedly are against gangs and violence yet they allow shows like gang wars, csi, underbelly, gangs of oz etc all promoting gangs and violence on TV as well as the news only showing negative stories.

      Just one big contradiction.

      Anyway carry on....
anyone signed to a major label, by your definition is an actor

if you dont like rap dont listen to it, i dont, but dont criticise it either

          It's not that I don't like rap. It's the image/content of the songs I don't agree with.

That's an interesting statement Ernie Lo.
In my humble opinion, I can honestly say that there are a lot of "artist" out there that pretend to be artists, but are nothing but scum described just as what you posted. But on the other hand there are a lot of true, genuine, positive energy spreading hip hop artists out there who advocate conscious, positive, uplifting, inspirational messages and social justice. Say for instance: Common, Talib Kweli, Lauryn Hill, Jean Grae, Mos Def, I can go on.
I like to see, in general, what people really seek in hip hop music. It's an artform that's got many sides.

Since I haven't brought any new music in at least 20 years, I'm going to have to go old school on this one.

This group is from the first wave of hip-hop from the late 70's onward.

    In no particular order:

    - Run DMC
    - Kurtis Blow
    - Naughty By Nature
    - MC Hammer
    - Whodeeni
    - LL Cool J.
    - Queen Latifa
    - Salt-N-Pepper
    - Sugar Hill Gang
    - Kool Moe Dee

    Honorable Mention...

    - DMX
    - Kriss Kross
    - En Vogue
    - Snoop
    - Will Smith

Note: If I remember correctly hip hop/rap was the only genre to capture all top ten spots on the pop chart - at one time, I guess for a week, since 1970.

Thanks hip hop for some truly great songs.

    All The Best!!

      Gee, thanks! I try, lol!

Now, to answer the OP's question...Well, being more of a classic rock and ballad kind of a girl, if I had to pick a hip hop artist, I'd choose Will Smith. I love Will Smith!

Wait! Is Will Smith a hip hop artist?

Isn't Lupe Fiasco the one who recorded a rap song over the music from In A Gadda Da Vida?

If so, Fiasco is an appropriate name for him.

    Here's the original classic:
