JERSEY Shore star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi gave birth early yesterday to her first child, a boy.
Hmmmm, maybe you are right!!!!!

Jersey Shore marks the end of civilization as we know it.

The other two, in a sense, I do think might be "worth their place" as top stories?

The Pussy Riot trial/issue has interested, incensed and angered the world, and has helped huge numbers of people to understand a little of what goes on in Russia, which perhaps isn't a bad thing?

I admit to great bias over the Neil Armstrong story. I have a particular interest in him, and was really very sorry indeed to hear the news. He was one of "the good guys".

I know what you mean, though, Jack, I think. But it's all subjective, isn't it? Anything about Neil Armstrong's going to make the news for a while? And without getting political, I do think it's not such a bad thing for anything about the Pussy Riot trial to make the US news for a few days rather than yet another "US election-related story"?
Yes, she is that all right..."Snookie" seems to be our current reigning Queen of 'everything that's wrong with media' which is frequently interjected into the headlines as a 'shiny object' to lull the masses back into their trance...

War in Syria? Look! look!...Snookie had a Baby!
Deficit out of control? Look! look!...Snookie has a 'tan-line'!
World going to hell? Look! look!...Snookie has a new 'handbasket'

It is not just her...she is just a current representative of the dissociative disorder...

Before her it was 'Paris" - before her it was 'Anna-Nicole' - and on and on down the line...all the way back to the Romans and the Gladiators...(jimo)

I was actually surprised pussy-riot created such a riot...I perceived Russians to actually be a little more on the liberal side these days, I was surprised the court was so offended when apparently the church thought treatment was a little harsh...but to be honest...I haven't been able to fully follow the trial etc...

Ooh! look! look! - Snookie got new sunglasses!!! I gotta go!

Well yeah... till you reminded me... thanks a lot Terra :p

It scares me more than a little that Snooki was allowed to reproduce... If you don't know who she is by now consider yourself lucky and stay ignorant... trust me here people, you're better off not knowing.

Gotta love those distractions, check with the BBC, the Brits usually have the scoop when you need a real news fix.

I don't see any of those stories on MSN.com's front page. I see Hurricane Isaac, Taliban, GOP convention...

Maybe the selection of stories is tailored to your interests, as so many news sites do now. Have you been reading a lot of celebrity gossip this week?

    I think it's just categorical.

    1. For those who like history/science

    2. For the gossip mongers and those of low IQ's who wouldn't understand the significance of real news and the impact it could have on their lives.

    3. For those who do understand that events in other countries could and do impact their lives and understand the importance of global awareness.

There's been a thread started about 2 of them.

How could they miss Brittney ;-)

I grew up in Ohio so guess Neil holds a special place for me and people of my time. I was sitting in front of the tv and watched it all.

And while I can appreciate the free speech implications of the Pussy Riot band (and I really just like writing their name) what happens in a sovereign country is their business - not mine, even if I may totally disagree with what Putin did. I think he got his feelings hurt and slapped the band - but does it really equate to remembering the life of the first human to walk on the moon?

as for my browsing habits - well thats my business .

Now that just totally cracked me up!

I just envisioned a little middle school aged Jack Tackett filling a whole page of his spiral notebook during a filmstrip with:

2 members of Pussy Riot flee Russia
2 members of Pussy Riot flee Russia
2 members of Pussy Riot flee Russia
Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot

Jack - there's a reason you will find news listed in the "entertainment" section these days. Corporations know their news isn't really "news". It's just the people that seem confused about what exactly corporate news is.

Well, I think it goes hand-in-hand with what puzzles me about the "liberal" media.
Where do we get all of our information. The media.
How do know the media has liberal bias?
    The media, of course.

    Who determines what is newsworthy?
    The media?
    Or, the audience?

      Alternative media - Internet.
How do know the media has liberal bias?
When it too strongly supports the liberal platform.
      The media, of course.

The White House -- according to whistle-blowing, fed up journalists. Other than that it is determined by the corporate ownership.
And that's the way it is

Alas not much different down under most of the time.

I keep commercial news to a minimum based on repetition and blatant dumbing down of the message.

Mind you I guess Armstrong was a prominent story, and Pussy Riot has aroused my curiosity based on human rights issues.

So guess it depends on which way you view it.

Either way, news is relative. And day by day getting more manipulative
