Hi, i,m looking to get a new antivirus software and wanted to ask what you think is the best antivirus program around, I want something that doesn't slow the computer down too much and that doesn't keep popping up screens.

I know bitdefender and kaspersky are supposed to be quite good or am I better off with a free one line AVG?.

what is the best antivirus program?

    Anything but Norton.

I use Avast. It's good, but the newest version is very aggressive in checking for viruses. As a result, my computer sometimes lags slightly.

But I still think it's still very good... and very effective.

I agree with John, at first i thought there was a problem elsewhere on my computer when it started to lag and take a lot longer time to boot up but the new free version is very thorough and I would rather wait a few extra seconds if it means keeping the viruses at bay.

Free Internet Security, Download Internet Security Software Suite - Comodo

^ Best free one you can find.

As for "anything but norton" - That used to be true, but not anymore.

Its actually come a VERY long way from what it used to be (when it was horrible)

I wouldn't put Norton on my PC if they paid me daily.
Norton was THE antivirus when Peter Norton owned it,but once they sold out to Symantec it went downhill fast and never got back up it.

Actually all those mentioned, even Norton would work if you are a careful user.
The best antivirus out there is Knowledge, and Caution and common sense in what you are doing.
A knowledgeable user can go years without getting a virus.

Have you tried Microsoft Security Essentials? I've been using it since it came out and have no issues with it yet. The best part is that its free.

I would say Nod25. All my computers were infected an extremely nasty Chinese virus once and only Kapersky and Nod25 could detect it. However, only Nod25 could eradicate it completely.

Why don't you give eScan ISS a shot. I have tried many but i am most satisfied with this.
It comes with a decent set of features that allow you to block unwanted websites, features an anti-spam engine and a built-in AntiSpam module. That apart, it also comes with Endpoint Security that allows you to block USB based devices. In addition you can also prevent certain applications from executing in the background. This is one feature that is currently overlooked by most products in the market. The product also comes with a Privacy Control feature that allows you to clean all internet related junk files either automatically or you could choose to execute it at a particular time period. The product also gives you the option to add your own 'files & folder' that would need to be cleaned

I use ESET Smart Security. It's good. I haven't had a virus since. My friend uses Avast! with great success.

    I don't think there's any best anti-virus - there's ones you like and ones I do.

I think Avast is best antivirus. It provides good security to it's user. It is good for both free and license version. You will never get virus in your PC if you use Avast antivirus in your PC.
