My personal opinion is that the OT section of this forum should just be deleted. It is more damaging to the forum than its continued existence warrants. But that is just my opinion.

After the recent brouhaha created by Ms Blundell, I have spent considerable time thinking about this area. Seeing her bash the entire forum staff and philosophy based on her own failure to report a problem offer, I have come to the following decisions. They will be in force for as long as Allen sees fit for me to be a moderator here.

Edit: A useful alternative has been found. Locking offenders out of just this section. See this post for details.

Everyone starts at zero, as of this moment. The past is gone, but so is tolerance.

Bashing the forum in general will result in a deletion of your post and a one-month ban, minimum. Your opinions are your own, but we are not required to pay to support them.

If you don't like it here, go somewhere else.

To the general group: Just have fun and be civil. Not necessarily pleasant or endearing or cheerful. Just civil. That's all we really ask.

  • Does that mean no bashing the WSO section lol. I can sense A LOT of bans coming.

    • Jamie,If you have a beef with something you bought, there are ways to address that. But generic "WSOs suck, and so do you if you disagree" threads/posts are just pointless rants.

So, yeah. If someone wants to use Allen's money and bandwidth to bash Allen's forum, I have no problem with blocking them. It's not as though we ignore people with actual evidence of actual problems.

I need to consider whether now is the time for a ban on generic bullsh_t. I believe it may...

  • Oh, no! I feel like a little kid who was just told they could no longer have recess after lunch. The OT is where I come to take a break from my work and just have some fun and light hearted banter when I need to come up for some air. And is where I hang out at on the weekends. (I'm not whining, just expressing a sense of loss.)

    For this, I thank you!

    I promise I'll behave!

    • I don't recall you ever not behaving. You're the perfect lady Miss Terra.

On another note, I just found the original amoeba thread doing a search
through Google. If I'm not mistaken, I think the article Paul is talking about
is the one he sent out in his Talk Biz news that I myself mentioned in the
thread. Shows you how the memory goes when you get old.

I don't recall the issue (and it's probably long gone since my PC crashed
last year) but I'm sure it was a great read.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Uh huh, sure. Until you mistake this place for some cowboy bar and uncharacteristically whip out your can of Whoop Ass on those who're pushing your buttons.

p.s. Oh man, I sure hope I'm remembering the story correctly, otherwise this post makes absolutely no sense.

  • "My personal opinion is that the OT section of this forum should just be deleted. It is more damaging to the forum than its continued existence warrants. But that is just my opinion."

    I completely disagree with this:

Personally I find the OT the part of the forum that,to me, still has the people with the most integrity and morals and ethics. Not all of us, but a good portion.

I would do business with,JV with, and cover their back with most here that I have a good relationship with.

It's gotten where the upper forums are full of snake oil sellers.Or self titled gurus.
I'd rather see the WSO forum go long before the OT.

Why, according to the threads in the WSO forum, 90% of the worlds monetary system is controlled by those posters.

    Paul,
I like you, you've been very tolerant of me many times, I recognize that fact...and appreciate it. but if my toe has gangrene, you cut off my toe, you don't take the whole leg.

Same as last election, things get very heated here at election time. But that is a word you mentioned to me the other day;passion. A lot of us love this country and care about it. I do have a private forum where the subjects forbidden here were allowed, but I think the login was too difficult for most people. I keep planning on fixing it but haven't yet.

I am sorry to hear about your friend's loss.
One thing I try to impress upon people and I know it sounds very cliche until its in your face, but that is live life the best you can, you never know what moment might be your last.
    Take Care everyone.
  • Sorry to hear Paul.. but whats this thread all about?

    What happened?
  • First of all, on a serious note: Sorry for your loss Paul, you have been emotionally drained. My condolences to you and the family.

    That out of the way...

You know what they say about opinions... (...and everybody has one) Don't let it get you down, it was like someone who was standing next to a litter basket who was complaining about some litter on the ground...

The thread in question may have just been a wad of hair in your emotional drain, a little BRAINO should clear that right up...

This OFF TOPIC is just that at times - a community forum BRAINO where the release of thoughts and emotions happen...some are fun, some are frustrating...some are silly, some are serious...but at the Warrior Forum County Fair, after the exhibits and the rides and the barkers and the colored balloons, this is the Beer Garden where you can take a load off for a few minutes - listen to some music, relax, and reflect on the world whizzing by...and chat with friends, and neighbors, and share ideas.

A place for relief, and release - for solace and for sounding board - and I for one would greatly miss it...

Being a self policing community, there are many who work to keep the place clear of grifters and riffraff - they can spot the cons and are quick to turn them in to the local Mods, and the problem was taken care of -

Personally, in this particular case, I didn't see what all the fuss was about...it was quickly fixed.

I'm tempted at this point to play a favorite Monty Python clip of mine - the 'Stoning' clip from "Life of Brian"...about the man who uses the "name of he who can't be named" - to lighten up the point
(You MP fans know the one of which I speak )

This OT has "2 taboos" - (I will not mention what they are for the fear of being stoned :rolleyes...they are, for the most part respected, but it may have been easier in the past - the current social climate is so fraught with the mixture of (those who can not be named) that it is hard to contain at times, and sometimes it is hard not to stand on the precipice of those subjects, and spit, throw stones, or...just see how deep the water is...

That can get you in trouble...

To twist a Longfellow poem a bit...

"I shot an Arrow into the air,
It fell to earth I know not where...
Until one day, it had been found,
the man it fell on, came around...
And now I do not greatly care,
to shoot more arrows in the air."

    • Question Paul: Can someone be banned just from one section of the forum?
  • Banned

Everyone feel better now? This negativity is cramping my style .
    • [ 3 ] Thanks
  • HEY! How come my post count didn't go up after I made that last post?

    Screw this section!
    • [ 7 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
  • Yeah, its just a new usergroup

Instead of banning a member, you move them to a different usergroup where OT section is restricted from all "members" of that group.

All they would need to do is create that new usergroup & set the group's permissions.

Then instead of moving someone to the "banned" group, you'd just move them to the "restricted" one, or whatever you would wanna call it. lol
  • To tell you the truth, I spent many years here NOT political. Oh well. And you are misplacing the guilt of blundells leaving at the OT doorstep. That ewhoring garbage which, as I said, I am against on many levels, wasn't O.T. related. In fact, I have seen spam, and even stuff that is at least as bad as that ewhoring in the main forum. YEAH, most of it eventually gets deleted, and some just gets ignored, but it happens.

Money is a nice thing. It makes some aspects of life simpler, etc.... STILL, it creates a lot of problems, like SPAM and ewhoring. And when stuff like THAT happens, others will speak in vague terms to sell info to do the same. I'm actually surprised that that "wso" was so open about what it was.

  • What really gets me is that the OT id the Rodney Dangerfield of the Warrior Forum,it gets no respect.
Outside of Paul and two others, I have no idea nor do I care who the Mods are.But I do feel that a good portion of threads that are posted in other forums here should be just disposed of,instead of being move to OT.There is a difference between being Off Topic, and being crap, and the majority of the threads here are crap. Like high school crap.
    What's your favorite color?
Where did you go to elementary school at?
    Do you eat fruit pic?
I could go on and on.

    But wont.

That said, Paul and the others do a good but thankless job here and I don't envy them a bit.

  • I must admit this OT forum draws me like a moth to fire because some of the topics. My time would be better spent in the other forums.

Now that the fun is over for good, I guess there is no time like the present to go out and mingle and be a little sociable.
  • Would be a sad day indeed when the OT is closed...
It's the only place on WF where you still find "real people".
Anyway, the Boss has spoken so back to my fish tank.

  • Uh, Paul...

Aren't you flirting with breaking this rule?

Perhaps you should try the new OT lockout on yourself - just to make sure it works...

    • Mike,

Ummm... No. Not if you're referring to the post that broke the camel's back.

Now, if I'd used some of the language that came to mind over the course of the discussions, that would have been another issue entirely. Fortunately, we don't have rules about what you think. Just what you post. [sigh] There are days when that would be a tempting thought...

  • I'm glad that you're trying to keep the quality on here high, OP!
    • [1] reply
    • Michael,

The quality of posts is up to the other members. They set the tone, by choosing what to respond to and what to ignore, etc. I'm just trying to maintain a certain rather broadly defined level of civility.

Mostly, "Don't bash huge groups of people for nothing more than having a different perspective" and "Please keep the unnecessary profanity to a relative minimum." The latter isn't usually much of a problem here. It's much worse in the WSO section, when trolls jump in to bash someone personally.

Different story, there. When someone has only three posts and is already up to 12 "F-bombs," banning them is more of a reflex than a decision.

  • Tim,
I have to address something you just said. The facts are TL was the main one that turned the most harmless discussion into a political fracas, and the facts are there are others besides myself that got sick and tired of it. So myself and others started calling him out on it. A very large portion would have never gotten out of hand without him instigating and intentionally escalating things.
I don't know who these dirty 1/2 dozen you can name are,if I thought real real hard I might be able to come up with 6,but not easily, but I don't think you can find a half dozen political threads that I've started.
I have not personally and I have not seen anyone disrespect you.
As a matter of fact myself and several others have stated how we respect your opinions and views.
    • [2] replies
    • Personally, I hate politics so I stay out if it. Religion, I respect others and
never force my views on them. So between those two topics, I have little
      if anything to say.

And if you want to be totally honest, we've had knock down drag out fights
in this forum about sports, gambling, weather, animal rights, and just about
anything you could think of that didn't involve either politics or religion.

I remember one where I was teaching a system of gambling and was literally
called everything under the sun for it including how evil I was because I
      gambled.

It was a long time ago and I've gotten over it but my point is, people being
people, they'll take hard line stands on just about any subject and if they
don't agree with your views, will rip you a new one.

I have the scars to show for it.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • You aren't one of the 6 whom I could name off the top of my head and none of them are "dirty" anyways. Just people who will post political topics or topics that can easily lead to politics. I do agree TL got very emotional the last couple of months and as I said before I told him here it wasn't really worth getting worked up about. I know from past experience that is true. haha. I'm also not saying anyone disrespected me, but was just thinking I was being singled out and a break wouldn't be a bad idea for myself, Paul and the OT forum as a whole.

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Absolutely Right Steven.
I'm not sure if this is the same thread or not, but I remember Kurt getting a lot of gruff over his methods or something along those lines.
While people may think I'm political, I'm in my opinion, Patriotic.
As far as religion,I'm with you on that, your beliefs are yours, and as long as you don't try to force me into yours, you can think what you want.

Honestly? I'd rather argue over who was the better guitarist in The Yardbyrds;Beck,Clapton or Page.

    • The forum went wacky on me. I deleted them after I figured out what happened.
      • [1] reply
  • Yeah, that may have come off not the way I meant it.
I probably could have and should have just left it at this much of the last line:
" myself and several others have stated how we respect your opinions and views."

I think we all need breaks some times.

Edit: And the dirty 1/2 dozen was an attempt at a joke/movie reference.I love the movie The Dirty Dozen.
