What about pork alternatives? Here in Canada in addition to pork bacon we have beef bacon, chicken bacon, turkey bacon, maybe other kinds of bacon (tofu bacon? ugh!) Same goes for sausage - all kinds of alternatives to pork.

Sausage is one thing, I love a good variety of sausage (except turkey sausage). But bacon is, well, bacon. There are no alternatives

Really. I think the death penalty is a bit harsh - it's not like they are trying to force people to eat spam or something. And it does allow those of faiths that can't eat pork to enjoy something at least a little similar to bacon. Have some pity for those poor individuals. In a country where the population can all enjoy real bacon, though - it really should be banned. It's not likely a black market will develop for it, after all. :rolleyes:

Interesting to note from that article that there's actually an organization called the National Pig Association. Now that I know, I'm pretty sure I've met one or two members...

But we're not panicking over here. If the price goes up, we'll just have to cut back on some of life's little luxuries. Like clothing and shelter.

I believe we have a few maple trees on our property, but I've never tested (tasted) them for syrup.

We DID have a small band of wayward pigs trot through our property on one or two occasions, but we weren't home at the time . . . otherwise . . .

City dwellers do not have the same opportunity, but those who live in small communities like ours, or on farms, could actually grow their own bacon if they were so inclined. (Personally, I am not so attached to the delight that I would go that route.)
