The dangers of soy have been well documented over the last few decades. As health sites such as Dr. Mercola will tell you, even Asians don't eat soy in huge quantities. And much of what they consume is fermented, which is much healthier. The main danger is for vegetarians who eat lots of tofu, soy-based veggie burgers, fake meats and so forth.

Not to mention if the soy comes from the U.S. there is an 80% chance that it is gmo.

Wow, believe it or not, I kind of meant this thread to be a joke. The bacon thread inspired it, namely the concept of tofu bacon someone mentioned as an alternative to bacon. So, I thought of something funny to search on Google, which was "tofu dangerous" and haphazardly posted the links I found.

I hope you're having butter as an alternative to margarine.
Fat in Margarine Is Tied to Heart Problems - NYTimes.com

"Harvard researchers also reported last year that diets high in margarine, once considered a healthful alternative to butter, and other foods with hydrogenated vegetable oils that contain fats known as trans fatty acids could double the risk of heart attack."

We use butter. We use margarine too. Depends on the dish. Moderation is usually the key to any food.

          I'm with you Dennis!

I never eat tofu, artificial sweeteners or anything artificial or fake, never have and never will.

I live by, "There ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby!" and "Mother nature knows best."

Of course, I also use moderation as too much of any good thing can be detrimental to your health and/or waistline.

I'm a vegetarian and I eat Tofu regularly, as for it causing cancer... what doesn't supposedly cause cancer? If you eat hamburger you may get mad cow disease, if you eat chicken you may get salmonella, etc...

Or I may get hit by a bus and die long before any of those thing happen at all...

Have fun, life is too short... why sweat the small stuff?

I let my body tell me what it needs and then eat that
This past week I've been eating a lot of rib eye's and eggs, so I guess I needed some extra protein. I use a natural lightly processed sugar simply because it tastes soooo good But I use Stavia in my water/ACV drink because it's already a liquid.
When I was working on healing my back I ate very little meat, which was actually kind of depressing at times
Funny my body has never had a craving for tofu, though I do like soy milk and eat other soy based foods.

Soy is a food that should only be eaten if organic and fermented. It was soy food manufacturers who started the gab that the crap is good for you.

It does help women stabilize if they are in menopause - but still needs to be used sparingly when symptoms get bad.

Soy -- and peanuts/peanut butter -- are iodine blockers, so too much of it can really mess with your thyroid. Any time you are eating that stuff you should be aware you need to eat something with iodine beforehand to let it get into the thyroid receptors before eating anything to block it out.

So before tofu and other like crap -- make sure to eat a few lobsters!

I've only ever eaten real sugar (sparingly usually with an occasional binge), real butter, and home cooked food instead of instant packaged crap. Lots of cancer control foods, too, like raspberries and tomatoes and citrus and raw milk. I never listen to the media pump on food because it's usually from manufacturer propaganda that even hits doctors........just like sunscreen did.

Unlike Dennis, though -- I don't consider that ahead of my time..........I consider it severely old fashioned. I like my food like it was before the pandemic of disease hit us.

Right on, on the real thing! The waistline is something I've never watched until recently. Like Thom, I've always let my body tell me what it wanted, but lately it's been telling me to lose some weight.

If a serious comment, old-fashioned or ahead of your time depends on your frame of reference, dear lady.

On another day I might say it your way, but by saying "I'm a man ahead of his time" ...combined with the eye roll icon, means the intent of my comment was not serious, but self-deprecating sarcasm.

And they lived happily ever after.

When I don't feel like really cooking I usually throw one of Amy's brand frozen foods in the oven.
I like their pot pies which contain tofu and a couple other diners they have that contain tofu. So far the ones I've tried have the firm tofu in them and you're right it tastes like what it is cooked with.

anything in moderation is a-okay. there's theories and research to disprove everything and anything! it's really dependent on how its grown.

for example, eating too many eggs gives you high cholesterol? nah, not if its cage free chickens!

Organically grown foods is the only way to go. I worry more about artificial preservatives, Sulphur Dioxide and Sulfites, BHA and BHT, and all that other crap put into our foods.

On the other hand, maybe if we stuff ourselves long enough with this crap we can survive as long as a box of Twinkies can....forever

My first lesson on tofu was "it takes on the taste of whatever you cook it with"....that was enough for me.

If I have to cook something with it for flavors - I'll just eat the "something" and skip the tofu.

Dennis - old fashioned eating has its bonus. We get fashionable every few years when all the fad chasers decide their latest food isn't as good as they thought and go back to basics.
