Are American Kids Quitters?

Obviously that's a general statement.
But are the children of America being taught that quitting, not giving it your best and being mediocre is OK?

    Crazy. Yeah - American kids are actually indoctrinated not to aspire to greatness in our public schools. Those that can afford private schools or do home schooling can still turn out normal kids, though.

      As for the football team, it sounds as though they made a rational statistical and tactical decision...

        WOW, what a SILLY story, especially considering the SOURCE of much of this attitude!

        Water seeks it's own level! In doing so, it levels a lot. The destruction of borders in so many ways has caused that to affect the US. Look at English grammar in the US! The US has gotten worse because of so much alien influence even as the world has gotten better from the influence of hollywood, TV, satellite, books, internet, etc... Knowledge IS like water in that respect, etc....

        One BIG korean company is now making memory and ICs, etc... WHY? HOW? Because an AMERICAN company sold them the knowledge and equipment to do so!

        So don't look at the leveling of a mountain and say IT is inferior or the building of a mountain and say IT is being built up. The substance of one comes from another.

        Given the response you elicited from Seasoned and the content of your signature probably added in by a mod, I'd be a bit more careful about making blanket statements like this that are sure to start problems.

    Actually American kids are the best kids. Asian and African kids are taught to be submissive and to learn to follow rules. American kids are taught by culture and school to be independent. Unfortunately in public school children from middle class are thrown in with children from ghettoes and both are busy adjusting with each other and don't have enough time to learn.

      ACTUALLY, the problem is more the class of the "teachers" than anything else.

        I agree it was a rational decision. There's no point in risking injuries when clearly one team is capable of steamrolling a lesser team.

        It's not "quitting" but making a wise decision for the good of the team and players.

    Kids aren't really taught the value of education when they're young. Instead, they're distracted by tv/movies, technology, media, and celebrities. They're allowed to survive with that addiction, until they're thrown into the real world and must fend for themselves.

    You are certainly right. I have never said the US is THE BEST country, etc... I will be the first to admit that a lot of good in the US came from a lot of foreign countries. HECK, most of my favorite foods were first introduced from ANOTHER country.

    But a lot of good has come from the US as well. I posted a video sometime ago that spoke of how NOBODY could ever create an iphone from scratch. That's right, NOBODY! Even Bill Gates with ALL his resources won't even, and never has, attempted such a feat.

    Anyway, it speaks of how SO many companies and countries have worked for that ONE product. HECK, if ONE person tried to build one at the beginning just for themselves, it would probably cost 100s of billions of dollars for ONE iphone!

    I won't say any more in THAT regard as I don't want to get banned, but countries come and go.

      I agree completely with you Steve.

      I hope you didn't think my comment was targeting you, as it wasn't.

      My view is variety is the spice of life with some countries having the spice that makes things taste better whether sweet or savory. And some countries have the spice that ruins the whole recipe leaving a bitter aftertaste in your mouth.

      I won't name which I believe is which for the same reasons as you.

    I have to disagree with those who say this was a rational decision due to safety concerns. There's a risk of injury during every play of every game.

    I get that the other team was superior, but how is the weaker program supposed to grow and get better? You have to play the game.

    I despise that we are teaching our children to avoid difficulty and to not even stand up to adversity.

      I haven't bothered to check the circumstances about the game in question, but awards for nothing is *******STUPID*******! It devalues the worth of the award. It becomes even LESS meaningful for those that get it for no reason, and devalues the value of those that earn it.

      So WHY do people think that ALL should be awarded? Those that get it for no reason get little more than they otherwise would, and those that DID get it for a reason lose a LOT!

      Am I going to get a reward for acting? For singing? For sports? For curing some fantastic disease? Almost certainly NOT!!!!!!! Do I care? NOPE! I never tried! If one gets a reward for a valid REASON, GREAT! I won't complain, etc.... Why should ANYONE else? In the past, people that complained about not getting a reward for substandard achievement were looked at as SPOILED BRATS!

      If the two teams were ABSURDLY mismatched, the teams have to get together better at matching up teams. If one team is below the average, they should work harder to improve before trying to enter such competitions. But I agree with the OLD policies that competitions should have few prizes and that one should have more weight than any other and should be given to the winner. A winner chosen on an OBJECTIVE basis.

      Don't we all LAUGH at those trying for X IDOL that have ****NO**** talent? Suppose only such people were available. If one of them won, would YOU root for them? Would they get a contract? Would they be looked at as good? Probably NOT! So what sense does it make for them to even COMPETE? The award means something ONLY because they were put up against ones that were decent and won an award by meeting a STANDARD!

    Let's not forget that while kids must learn in order to compete in a modern world and must behave in order to exist in society, they also deserve to have a childhood. All work and no play makes robots that excel but live a pretty dull existence.

    I believe its not just american kids. Its all kids. Parents are to blame though. If there was proper parenting, parents would teach their children to give it their best in anything they do and to learn from mistakes.
