I think it was either a typo or something was lost in translation. I believe the Mayans were refering to bacon and were predicting the upcoming aporkalypse, not an apocalypse.

It's the end of an era. That's what the long count calendar was all about - they had a couple of other different length calendars, too - one was agricultural, can't remember the other one. Their sense of time passage wasn't the same as ours. There's supposed to be some sort of change in our awareness or an actual energy shift but not an apocalypse. The apocalypse view of the end of the calendar was nothing but good marketing by a few people starting their own religions.

Despite the New Age movement and apocalyptic marketing, December 21 is going to be just another day. It's still a very lucrative niche, but time is running out for making the big bucks.

I remember back when I was a kid in grammar school. The word was that the world was going to end in a few weeks. Boy, was I relieved because my grades were crap that quarter. But it didn't matter because, no more mean world. I didn't do any homework for a week or so leading to the cataclysmic event either.

Then when the freakin' world was still spinning after the fated day I got my ass handed to me on several fronts. When asked where my homework was I told the teacher that in light of the world ending I didn't see homework being all that important.

She just rolled her eyes and invited me up to her desk where she showed me her grade book. It had lots of red marks by my name. So... If you can't pull the plug on the world yourself don't trust the chore to others because they'll only disappoint you. :rolleyes:

The Mayans had 17 different calendars. The Baktun cycle that ends in this winter solstice will begin anew. The Mayans did not say the world will end. It simply marks an end to an era. Some say an end to a certain level of consciousness. From what I've read, this calendar was etched in a stone stellae when it was discovered lying face-down in the dense forest undergrowth in Coba, Mexico in the 1940's. Luckily, someone had the presence of mind to trace the symbols with tracing paper and pencil before the etchings dried up and were blown away by the wind.

Hmmmm, interesting, yeah, Australia or Brisbane had a severe storm front, that apart from 90 km an hour winds, also created freak lighting across the state, (l think that it was 8000 at last count).

Warning, video automatically starts and has dumb, loud ad at start!!!!

The pictures of Brisbane airport showed a lightening almost hitting a jumbo jet; and reminded me of the superstorms in some of these apocalyptic movies!

The myans actually predicted, the exact time when a very long cycle, as well as others was going to end. Or the point where our galaxy stopped moving towards the centre of the known universe, (big crunch, etc) and paused, before moving in the other direction.

Scientists believe that everything is hurtling towards a big crunch, which might destroy everything and create a big bang again?

I tend to go with the mystics who believe that the universe constantly expands and contracts!

We will know who is right next month!!!! :rolleyes:

Some also believe that after this time, we will have 2,400 years of peace, before the world goes downhill again, as it is now.

So, unfortunately we wont have the classic UFO landing in a park, until after this event! Aliens aren't sloppy and only do things at the right time.

After that the BS around free energy, medicine and hidden things in our backyard, (moon, etc) will finally be shown!

Hmmmm, best to buy UFO type toys now, they will be gone by Xmas!!!!

No, it will 'begin' if anything. I think there will be s subtle but profound shifting of consciousness that most will not sense and so will continue on thinking 'nothing' happened.
