BBC NEWS | Health | Death link to too much red meat

According to a US study of 500,000 people

Time for some lightly poached lettuce stuffed into
a 96lb chicken which is then gently casseroled with
some organic lychees for about 3 weeks.

Dunno whether this includes fish like red mullet or goldfish
or a Great Ginger Shark ??????

I'm not worried about that I don't eat red meat or pork.

As for fish salmon, mahi mahi, cod, king fish, and tilapia are good :p Especially salmon, has omega 3 fatty acid and is good for skin. Goldfish aren't worth eating

Me neither, Valerie. I only eat poultry and fish -- and the occasional veggie-burger.

Wow, now that's news...too much red meat can kill you!

Uh-huh, just like too much alcohol can kill you, too much salt can kill you, too much cholesterol can kill you, too much of this, too much of that. Good grief...even too much water can kill you!

I heard of a guy who worked in a slaughterhouse and died after a pile of beef fell over on him. That's really a case of too much red meat...

Quote: "The researchers calculated that 11% of deaths in men and 16% of deaths in women during the study period could have been prevented if people had decreased their red meat consumption to the level of those in the lowest intake group."

Yes, those 11% of men and 16% of women could have lived to die of something else and been grumpy the entire time! Sometimes nothing satisfies like a chunk of dead steer!

See how ridiculous it is, all these stupid studies to warn us about our bad behavior? And who's to say that those 11% of men and 16% of women didn't die at the exact moment they were supposed to?!

Live your frigging lives and stop worrying about all this BS and enjoy the ride while you're on this rock. We're all going to "die" one of these days and nothing you do will put it off. The only thing we can do is try to remain healthy enough to enjoy ourselves until Death knocks on your door.

Great. Now I have a craving for some Stewart Anderson's Black Angus!

I'm not totally disagreeing with the findings, but I would like to see the same study done with another group that only eats meat from animals who weren't injected full of steroids, hormones, and other chemicals who only ate natural foods to that animal.

All that extra stuff in the meat surely can't be helping your health in the long run.

I lived in lottery hunting territory for years and the hunters knew to come to my place to get Blitz out looking if they lost someone, or if they needed emergency shelter in freaky weather. They always made sure that my freezer was full of fresh meat - wild meat with no chemicals. You could taste how much cleaner the food was than store bought. I don't eat a lot of meat anyway, but my dog thrived on it.

One of the other reasons meat isn't good for us is that it takes some time to digest and our intestinal tract is too long to move it through fast so it putrefies and causes other problems. The percentages of people that died in the tests probably didn't eat enough raw food such as salads for the enzymes to help break the meat down easier or enough fiber and exercise to help move it through fast enough.

How true, abstinence in this case will result in guaranteed death as well.

I seen as study recently linking death to drinking regularly as opposed to binge drinking. A previous study findings were at odds 180degrees.

Death shall no doubt be linked to adverse reactions to statistical analyses performed by meat eating, vege loving, beer swilling, tee-total, ultra-fit, big-arsed slob, chain smoking, non-smoking, sound of mind nutters.

Still, to end on a cheery note.

      As the Police once said:
      "Every breath you take..."
      "...is one nearer your last...

Although I try to eat as mostly fish, chicken, and turkey I have to admit I do love a good steak. There are so many things that will kill us.Look at the side effects of all these drugs they let out. Since the money is in treating illness they don't even attempt to cure anything anymore.Don't get me started!

    Simple question.

How do you find out how much longer anybody might have lived if they had not done certain things while alive?

Would my first, second and third wives have lived longer if they hadn't married me and is my fourth wife surviving because she lives in a different country and only claims visiting rights? On the face of it, my experience would seem to prove that being my wife and living with me is fatal.

The problem is, I can't resurrect any of my wives and try again without the cohabitation.

Some of these posts remind me of someone I knew.
Everything he ate was organic and he only ate fish, no other animal flesh.
He also exercised daily, didn't smoke and only drank about three glasses of wine a week.
He died at 38 of cancer.

If it's going to get you, it's going to get you.

That's what kills me about these gym membership people. They work out and work out for years, only to die in really good shape. What's the point? (Especially when they circle the parking lot trying to find a parking space closest to the door...aren't you there to get some exercise? Park out back and walk, for heaven's sake!)

Fresh calves' liver is healthy red meat, and it's rich in iron, B vitamins and enzymes. Just gently squeeze the blood out before it coagulates.

If I am to eat red meat, really red meat, I need to eat the meat of carnivors - but the carnivors must also only eat the meat of other carnivors who only eat the meat . . . .

Beef is a vegetarian product. In the normal course of events, cattle do not eat meat so all their growth is vegetable based. In reality, a steak is only modified grass.

Damn, does that mean vegetarians run the same risk?

I just had me a Top Rounder with Onion Chips and Horseradish sauce.
The Top Rounder is 1/2 lb. of shaved top round soaked in Au jus and served on a big ole toasted bun, with salt and pepper.
