I am toying with the idea of picking up a new 3D TV. It is amazing to see how much the prices have dropped on the glasses.

Does anybody here own one? I am toying with a new Sony.

3D TV? I've never even seen a 3D movie... I'm not keeping up with the times! What's all the fuss about 3D anyway? Is it actually properly 3D?

There's a reason why they are dropping in price.

They are soon to be old tech when the new ones come out that don't require glasses ala Nintendo DS.

Warning Old Fart Rant coming up!

Who remembers when watching TV used to a family/social activity? Now we're expected to sit in a room (perhaps full of people we're close to) and be totally isolated from them behind some stupid glasses which are a pain in the @rse to wear.

Old Fart Rant finished, carry on, as you were.

So that blind people can hate them as well.

Do you have kids? When 3D TVs first became popular, there seemed to be a lot of warnings in respectable newspapers and magazines about the potential health risk to children. Too much time spent staring purposely out-of-focus to focus on the fake depth of 3D TV could damage children's eyes as their sight is still developing, or so the theory went. There have been no real studies on the long-term impact yet. Nobody's saying an occasional movie will hurt anything, but sitting a kid in front of a 3D TV every day could be a different matter.
